More like Dems had a (I would argue benevolent) dictator in FDR and gradually lost power to the resentful, win-at-all-costs, ends-justify-the-means Republicans. And now Dems job is to whittle way at the GOP dictatorship, likely as a resentful, win-at-all-costs, ends-justify-the-means “resistance”
