I'm putting together a reading list for my graduate class on executive function (starting next Tuesday). While doing so, I discovered that virtually all chapters in this 2024 volume on the frontal lobes are OPEN ACCESS (eds: Banich, Haber, & Robbins). Nice! I thought some of you might be interested.

Natural scientists will find a lot to learn here as well; you don’t need to be a social scientist to find the book valuable.
A few months ago I read @philipncohen.com's Citizen Scholar in proof. It's now available in print.

To restore public trust in expertise, professors can’t just profess—they need to engage. Citizen Scholar explores how contemporary academics can do this, and why they might choose to.

Interesting article, since we know that previous #learning does not appear to be forgotten and in fact even after #extinction - whatever that word may mean today - in #exposure-therapy, doesn't seem to extinguish a #fear conditioned response at all.

You cannot use genotyping, and/or brain imaging, to diagnose ADHD: the differences in both genes and brain structure are just too subtle to allow it. So why do I feel that all of this ton of evidence amounts to nought? Has the mountain just given birth to a mouse? #ADHD #genetics #neuroimagery

The problems with #exposure_therapy are many: you need lots of time, to be willing to do therapy in different settings. But that all pales in comparison with what it means for the therapist to face his client’s distress, making it necessary to do exposure therapy on exposure therapy. #fear #CBT

There is a difference between the experience of an emotion and the survival program that is enact to which it may be or not correlated. This makes fear extinction learning a problematic concept: is fear the experience or the consequent behavior that needs to be inhibited through new learning?
