Just presented my work on bridging satellites 🛰️ and meta-omics 🧬 to monitor the health of ecosystems in the Mediterranean Sea 🏺🌊

Explaining machine learning to microbiologists ✅

Whoo that's cool 🆒.

I kind of did something similar during my thesis, but agreed: let's bring this to a higher scale! 📏🌍

Our roadmap includes:
1️⃣ Building a standardized ontology of protist traits and modalities
2️⃣ Populating a trait database following this ontology and using the existing literature
3️⃣ Integrating this database into the larger framework of tools routinely used in protistology

Reach out if interested! 🫵

This is the product of great discussions 💬 and writing sessions 📝 with the amazing @mjamy.bsky.social & @lusantof.bsky.social 💪

With the fervent support of @fonamental.bsky.social, @daniel-vaulot.bsky.social and our other co-authors 🙏

Hello there 🦋
Happy to share our piece "Towards a trait-based framework for protist ecology and evolution" in @cp-trendsmicrobiol.bsky.social

Let's build a unified trait 📏 database to unlock transformative insights into protist 🔬 ecology 🌍 and evolution ⏳

A bit late to the #skyparty but I was really glad to co-chair our special symposium on protist traits at #ICOP2025 organized by #ISOP in Seoul 🇰🇷

Grateful for the inspiring talks, engaging discussions, and the chance to reconnect with old friends and colleagues from around the world.

Microbial diversity, hence functional diversity has been implicated to positively influence ecosystem function. @pierreramond.bsky.social et al. present drivers of functional diversity and present perspectives for functional diversity studies.

Last week, I got the chance to present some of my research 🧫🌐🌊 during an Arago Seminar🎙️, nice chat and discussions afterwards 👁️‍🗨️ thanks @obs-banyuls.fr 💕

Some perspectives to highlight for microbial functional ecology (... some are in prep^^):
+ Collecting more genomes across Earth
+ Identifying effect traits
+ Quantify Functional Diversity and Redundancy
+ Test their impact on ecosystem efficiency, stability and resilience
+ Predict future patterns

Microbial functional diversity and redundancy: moving forward
Abstract. Microbial functional ecology is expanding as we can now measure the traits of wild microbes that affect ecosystem functioning. Here, we review te
