The Foundation of Hope, on behalf of the residents of the Allegheny County Jail, is requesting books 10 or fewer years old - horror/sci-fi novels, comic books, non-religious self-help books, mystery novels, and foreign language novels.

PIIN (Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network) strongly condemns the horrific act of antisemitism at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia during a Hanukkah celebration. This community event should have been a time of joyous commemoration of miracles and rededication, not a time of continued attacks and hate. We name the terrible irony of the timing of this appalling attack on the Jewish community during the very act of reclaiming their identity during centuries of continued oppression and persecution. We deepen our commitment to eradicating attacks on any individuals or groups based on religion, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender or ableism. We hold true to our vision of vibrant, just communities alive in our spiritual traditions and determined to create greater equity and flourishing in our neighborhoods. We offer our support to all our Jewish friends and family, particularly those in the Pittsburgh area during a time of heightened grief and fear. We hold the 15 lost lives, and all the physically and emotionally wounded in our hearts. We offer our prayers and actions for peace, community connection, the abiding Love of God and all that we hold as sacred.

Allegheny County Council is voting tomorrow to repeal a portion of the 2021 ban on the use of solitary confinement, restraint chairs, pepper spray, and leg shackles in the Allegheny County Jail. Contact your district reps today and urge them to vote NO on overturning any portion of the ban.

You can vote if you: -Are a pre-trial detainee confined in a penal institution awaiting trial on charges of a felony of a misdemeanor. -Are convicted of a misdemeanor and are confined in a penal institution. -Were released (or will be released by the date of the next election) from a correctional facility or community confinement facility upon completion of your term of incarceration for conviction of a misdemeanor or a felony. -Are on probation or released on parole. -Are a parolee living in a community confinement center (except for state intermediate punishment (SIP) inmates). -Are under house arrest (home confinement), regardless of conviction status or the status of the conditions of confinement.
