2. Heizou is just a rather awkward person in general. It's easy to forget -seemingly both irl and in canon- with how playful and confident he acts, how competent he is in what he does, and how so many people praise him, but it really shows sometimes.

1. When we first meet Kazuha, he's not yet done with his journey with grief, and has a harder time opening up to people. I doubt that was entirely because of his friend's death, considering a bit part of his story was about figuring out how to cope with the grief

You do get faster over time tho. Studies help with simplification too, because the morr you understand what you're simplifying, the easier it is to know how it'll work when simplified
