They do typically say they have potential to be a great team, rather than that they are tho, so everything we know about their relationship combined makes me think it's more like they are good friends, but still have way to go

Drawn to and curious about eachother, and it's repeatedly been said they could be great partners, and it does look like that's the case. Their personalities match in a couple of ways, yet the way their personalities match is also what makes it hard for them to get close.

Their voicelines are regarding their relationship in the present, because they're often set in really random points in time. Sometimes several years in the past for some reason...

Something that became obvious after his -

I immediately went "wow, that's sad" in my head. For one because he has living immediate family and it implies they don't know him that well, but also, the person who complains she can never find you, immediately could tell you weren't there to see her, and really seems to not have the full picture-

2. Heizou is just a rather awkward person in general. It's easy to forget -seemingly both irl and in canon- with how playful and confident he acts, how competent he is in what he does, and how so many people praise him, but it really shows sometimes.

It comes of like he was slowly recovering, but had another loss at a time he wasn't ready to.

So whenever the two of them met, it's likely Kazuha was still more closed off

related to the loss of his family and his clan falling while in his hands. We're told he befriended people in his travels, but was closed off from the crux fro the longest time. But it doesn't appear like most of them were close friendships, and a lot of the characters he's close to now -

And it's probably due to two things:
1. When we first meet Kazuha, he's not yet done with his journey with grief, and has a harder time opening up to people. I doubt that was entirely because of his friend's death, considering a bit part of his story was about figuring out how to cope with the grief

Honestly, it's kinda hard to tell. They seem to know eachother pretty well, better than most of other characters know them even (esp in Heizou's case, but that's one low bar to set), and they both admire eachother in a way, but at the same time their relationship seems to still be kinda awkward.

You do get faster over time tho. Studies help with simplification too, because the morr you understand what you're simplifying, the easier it is to know how it'll work when simplified
