I’ve always liked my LGS’s rule for boxing league: “You can only create mana in colors of your commander’s color identity.” Keeps the color tie to your commander while also opening up to things like hybrid mana. Wouldn’t stop arguments around phyrexian mana or multi color dual-sided cards though
