PS Still got a spare briefcase badge and knob!
The blue on clear perspex badge of a Synthi AKS that was riveted to the briefcase plus one knob!

I owned one of those for a while back in the early ‘90s. I really regret selling it. A remarkably stupid decision! Fabulous thing, such a unique and characterful sound. I’ve owned a lot of vintage synths (I bought and sold as a secondary income) and that was the one I wish I’d kept.

11, or 12 if I count A Nice Pair (I have Piper and Saucerful).

Miles & TD (I’ve got pretty much everything Miles ever recorded!).

Everyone in Liverpool was in a band at the time. Including me (disk five, track six!)

Looks like exactly the right balance of lethal mains voltage,
pink plastic and gaffa-tape. Respect.

This week’s fresh oddness from Brighton: The New Eves - The New Eve Is Rising. A hard one to categorise, kind of shambolic freak-folk meets The Slits via Amon Düül (I more than II). Certainly its own thing. As ever I can’t resist a signed copy on pre-order.

Another one of those sad days. RIP Ozzy. Pleased I got to see the original line-up (1978, Liverpool Empire, I was still a school kid). An astonishing genre-defining band.
Black Sabbath debut album, UK Vertigo pressing.

New Wet Leg album Moisturiser landed, albeit a day late despite the comedically huge £6.15 postage charge. It is growing on me after a couple of plays. The “3d lenticular” cover of this edition is quite amusing; Rhian’s somewhat creepy expression changes depending on the viewing angle.
Wet Leg Moisturiser, limited ‘deluxe edition’ preorder from the band’s store with signed insert etc.

17, helped somewhat by the bizarre number of Bowie albums!

Such an amazing album. One of those few that are unlike anything else. A one off.

One of my better £1 bin finds was an original hand-sprayed cover copy of the first album. A shop in Chester in about 1983, very possibly Penny Lane. Good album, I knew nothing about them at the time, just that it had to be worth a quid!

Best review ever! I’d have bought eight copies at least based on that.

PS UA’s catalogue was so strong at this time, really good and often challenging stuff. I can’t remember the story, but it’s something like some of Hawkwind’s Ladbroke Grove friends getting A&R roles! It is certainly connected to them somehow. You can add Nektar too.

5! (Hawkwind, Man, Amon Düül II, Can & Neu!, though the Neu! is a reissue).

I recall Luxuria being much more ‘rock’, guitar solos and the like. I’ve got their first album and single and actually saw them live (never got to see Magazine), but I can’t remember that much about them other than that! Must dig them out for a spin…

I’m still convinced Secondhand Daylight is a prog-rock album! Still great! I’d add Devoto’s solo Jerky Versions Of The Dream to the really good stuff too. Dunno which I’d pick out the first three, all wonderful, though Murder Magic & The Weather rather less so. All so different.
