Yesterday, the ordinands and trainee lay ministers had our commissioning service, where we’re called out from the congregation and stand before them, as a reminder of who we’re called to serve. and publicly committed to God as we train.

Saw one of some of those fancy rainbow clouds this evening. In person it a full colour range but I could only catch a couple of the colours.

Planned splat day is going well. Pulled some knitting projects out to frog. Sat down to frog them. However…we have not made much progress on that due to cats.

It’s mid August but cats have moved to The Big Bed as apparently cold 🤨 If cats drank pumpkins spiced lattes, I reckon they’d each have had one by now.

So as an auxiliary pathway SSM, there are no Greek or Hebrew classes. However, I started teaching myself NT Greek *many* years ago. I sold most of my texts to put the money towards our house deposit, but I held onto my Nestle Aland Readers edition and I’m so pleased I did. That’s August sorted.

This week's #TinyJoys came from being able to fill a vase with flowers from the garden, including some Zinnias grown from seed specifically for this month’s use and that were ready in time!

They also want to know if Brie is a union member. Their union ensures they only partake entertainment and emotional support services (playing together, welcoming visitors and scritch/lap time), but never hospitality or hygiene roles (cleaning and tidying) 😉

Delighted to find this little postcard in Holy Trinity, Blythburgh, of one my favourite prayers, written by Cardinal John Henry Newman.

He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. Off to my stage 2. Grateful for all the encouragement I’ve received along the way, conscious that this process is not built for many of us, but glad for opportunity to give it a go. Thinking this morning of @edwardrhbarlow.bsky.social comment a week or so ago.
A Blue Sky comment, that says: Prune. Eat snack. Then go and be you, your pruning, snack eating self. That’s what they want see. (And if it all goes pear-shaped, chalk it up as a retreat at the expense of the diocese…). I’ve found a great version from the The New Zealand Standard that also has a frame for justice.

I’m not sure I fully agreeing with the wording for the last frame but the principle is good.
First frame, Reality: One person gets more than enough whilst another gets less than needed. Thus, huge disparity is created. The first person is stood on a huge stack of crates. He has a great view! Second person is stood on one crate peering over the fence. Theirs person is stood in a hole. Second frame, Equality: The assumption is that everyone benefits from the same supports. This is considered to be equal treatment. The tallest person is stood on a crate and can see right over the fence, second person is stood on one crate and can see by peering over the top. The last one has one crate but is still too short to see over. Frame three, Equity: every gets the support they needs, which produces equity. The tallest person has no crate, they can see over without it. Second person has one crate and can peer over. Last, shortest person now has two crates to stand on, and can peer over. Forth frame, Justice: All three can anee the game without supports or accommodations because the cause(s) of the inequality was addressed. The systemic barrier has been removed. All three people of different heights can all see the game because the fence has been removed, giving them a clear view across the field.
