My erstwhile colleague Jens #Henriksson reminded me of his @bruegel.org 2007 essay on budgetary consolidation. Almost twenty years on, his no-nonsense approach strikes me as still relevant. Should be a must-read for all French current and would-be policymakers.

Michel #Aglietta nous a appris que contrairement à ce que nous disaient les microéconomistes, la transition n'était pas qu'une affaire de prix relatifs qu'une tarification adéquate du carbone pouvait régler. Un prix du carbone est nécessaire mais il est loin d'être suffisant.

Pour la première fois, un conseil des ministres franco-allemand a été préparé par des mémos conjoints des économistes des deux pays. Il y a 10 ou 20 ans, les désaccords entre eux étaient légion. Aujourd’hui la convergence des analyses et des propositions est marquée.
