We're predominantly digital with minimal print stock as a distance learning institution, but even so this does not align with the needs of our pedagogy. The alternative offering also doesn't suit many distance learning institutions who need stability of online products, which PQE doesn't offer...

There's absolutely no way my ADHD-riddled brain could make it through the whole thing so I'll definitely have to snippet it. I didn't even think to check their reporting, but it's going to form quite an essential part of our discussions I think. The help and discussion here has been invaluable.

I should clarify, I don't think I ever really believed that US demand was leading to the change, and it was a bit of a smoke and mirrors approach to run with the public line of 'we're innovating here!' because it looks better than 'we don't make enough money on ebooks'. /1

Now that is interesting. Funny that this runs contrary to their press release announcement of ProQuest ebooks that implies the move is specifically to align with US market desires:

It's only since I've been scrolling through the tags on bsky over the past few days that we've got any clue that US libraries are actually equally as angry about the move. We don't have good connections with US librarians at my institution so it makes it easy for ProQuest/Clarivate to pass the buck.
