Hi Sky!

My name is Carlos A. Pittella, I’m a Latinx poet, & you may find my bordercrossing/borderbeing in poems like “WATSONS”

—luv to @chaudierebooks.bsky.social for publishing this piece during National Poetry Month: chaudierebooks.blogspot.com/2025/04/nati...
WATSONS

We set two death traps
& we set a live one
To give Watson a chance

as our child pleaded,
having composited & baptized
the ideal mouse out of real scatterings.

The live trap is a seesaw box:
if you reach for the peanut-butter
droplet on the far side,

the weight shifts till the entrance shuts,
so you’re trapped—lest a hand unlocks
you bright to a cat minefield outdoors.

The live trap is heavy & leaky
when we return from Xmas.
The downstairs renovation

created an opportunity for porousness.
Landlord, though, wonders how strange
only our unit has gappy borders…

In the air, the rotting implication
our lax customs are somehow
responsible for the penetrator.

The morning after shivers
when I remember an article on PB’s
acceptable percentages of foreign matter

right as my love proffers me smooth
lavished on heirloom apple slices.
My mouth cannot pronounce “heirloom”

comfortably enough to forget its ligaments.
I snack attending a government e-session
on the small-print immigration changes.

Landlord texts, How many trapped?
Our child keeps asking, Where’s Watson?
Somewhere a mouth shows cat teeth.

If we leave the province, we can’t return.
The e-session is recorded for our convenience.
I’m waiting for the hand release.

Gina Montaner, a well-known journalist, recounts how her father sought an assisted death in her memoir 'Deséenme un buen viaje', a personal account of the intricacies of the new Spanish euthanasia law.

Tell your friends!

Or tell that file in your documents, you know the one, the one you never tell anyone about, called X-Files Poems or What Kind of World Will We Leave for Keith Richards: Poems, or Everything Was Great Until I Watched A Quiet Place 2.

You know I like the weird manuscripts 😬

We in our sleep have invented birds,
invented song, invented pure
white feathers. But birds
are just the party line on flight:
the bat has no residence in light, his sky
is an underground sky, lower than the visibility
provided by a guttering candle.
Extinguish sight: ash rises in peaceful spirals.

Also, "to[o] busy" to proof their cover, hmm? 😉

I say publish it (on a slog day) but don’t tell them just to see if they actually read it… 😈

I just memorized this one, because I liked it so much.
Te Deum
by Charles Reznikoff

Not because of victories
I sing,
having none,
but for the common sunshine,
the breeze,
the largess of the spring.

Not for victory
but for the day's work done
as well as I was able;
not for a seat upon the dais
but at the common table.

You know when you write poetry you find […]

some glue for the heart

Joanne Kyger
You know when you write poetry you find
the architecture
of your lineage your teachers
like Robert Duncan for me gave me some glue for the heart Beats which gave confidence and competition
to the Images of Pertection
... or as dinner approaches I become hasty do I mean PERFECTION?

Love this episode & the show (best thing about Mondays)! 💙

On mRNA vaccines: they are not currently used for the flu vax (though they may one day). The first approved mRNA vaxes were for Covid—& 2 of the amazing researchers that made them possible got the 2023 Nobel (to the chagrin of RFK Jr.)
