If by that, they mean a bigger focus on combat, I'm down for that. I do want them to focus more on dungeons and items though.

I mostly agree with you, but there are some exceptions. Lost Crown is one of the greatest Metroidvanias I've ever played.

Even though she generally doesn't talk much, I think Metroid is in more or less the same boat. It would feel like some kind of cheap knockoff without her.

I like the game's difficulty, I think it's just right, however I agree that the "run back to the boss" thing that souls games started is just pointless and doesn't add anything.
