They can only cherry pick if by doing so they don’t mislead. The cost of net zero is patently NOT the total cost of the system. That’s like saying that the cost of reducing a car’s emissions includes the cost of the car. The man on the street would be seriously mislead by such a statement.

2/2. On the contrary, I’d advocate warnings about the dangers of their use, even so called social use. Tobacco carries health warnings. I think alcohol should too.

1/2 I agree. The only difference is social acceptance and quality control. Decriminalising drugs and having user clinics for addicts is a good idea, which cuts out dealers, police time and overdosing. But I wouldn’t be saying, as I understood Zak to be saying, that I ‘support’ their safe use.

2. I would also not have given the impression that we support the ‘safe’ use of drugs. For some people, there’s no such thing. Addiction is a cunning, baffling and powerful adversary which tells the user that they don’t have a problem. Addicts often only find out that there is when it’s too late.

1. I thought it was a very good interview too, subject to one important area of disagreement. On the drugs policy, I think it would be better to frame this as ‘decriminalising’ rather than ‘legalising’ drugs.

Thank you. I missed this earlier article. I’m surprised that David Jobbins should give up on recording data, and share his views on this platform. Giving up is very tempting. I get that. But let’s not give others a reason or excuse to do the same.

Not a good reason to stop recording. Statistics help those who are still fighting for wildlife. Using your platform for this sort of negativity is irresponsible.

What a horrifying read! I had (naively) thought that the Good case was perhaps a one-off, or at least exceptional. But the reality appears to be that the entire city is under siege from licensed thugs. Very, very scary.

I mean, seriously, when you look at that beautiful animal, how could your heart not be warmed? Those who harm foxes must be lacking some fundamental human element. Maybe they should be pitied rather than despised. Either way, they must be stopped. Keep up the good work Chris.

Maybe clarify we’re talking about butterflies Martin? 🤔

19/ My New Year’s resolution is simple: I’m backing @zackpolanski.bsky.social & the Green Party, campaigning, voting, advocating 🌱

I hope you & the wider environmental movement will mobilise too

The UK Green movement has changed history before. Now we must secure political power to make it stick⚡💚

Coincidentally, I watched The Big Short the other day. This looks very much like another recipe for disaster, and an opportunity to bet on failure.

Chicken and egg surely? Why are billionaires able to control the press?
December 10, 2025 at 9:43 AM
Isn’t that just a consequence of the problem - albeit a very important one? Money is power. Even if billionaires couldn’t control the press, they could control governments and thus control fiscal policy.

On the Notts/Derbys border, red-cross flags have appeared on several lamp-posts near a hotel in which immigrants are being temporarily housed and where opponents have been demonstrating. There can be little doubt in this case that “Keep Out” is the motivation and intended meaning.

It’s a shame that the Church Commissioners don’t follow this example in the vast tracts of land that they own - eg in the Fens, where their mismanagement of huge areas of land in their ownership “sits at odds with their professed environmental ethics” (“The Lie of the Land” by Guy Shrubsole).

I’m so glad that, this time, I voted Green. It may not have achieved anything in representative terms, but it helps me to avoid the shame that I would otherwise have felt for helping into power a government whose actions are destructive of everything I hold dear.
