The people "we should have elected to prevent this" are doing nothing to prevent this.

Good thing housing isn't a political issue then.
lolz.
February 9, 2026 at 7:14 PM
"political pressure"?
January 14, 2026 at 5:11 PM
That's right. Taxes pays for some stuff I agree with, and some stuff I don't.
I'm saying I can imagine my tax dollars go to things I agree with, other people's tax dollars go to things I don't agree with.

If I feel strongly about the latter I have means of trying to influence that.
January 12, 2026 at 8:54 PM
I pay for your stuff, and you pay for mine. Seems like a fair trade.

If it makes you feel better, just allocate your taxes to stuff you would actually pay for.

My taxes go to healthcare and public education. Yours go to whatever you use or think is important.

Voting people out is firing them.
A "new set of masters". Lolz. Aren't you running?
January 12, 2026 at 7:37 PM
Should a large company be allowed to buy up smaller competitors?
January 12, 2026 at 7:35 PM
We live in a democracy, so we absolutely have the ability to demand change.

What do you think unions, school boards, and PACs do? Not to mention voters in general.

We have the opportunity to fire our providers every election cycle.
January 12, 2026 at 7:30 PM
Government needs to make it possible for new competition but also to prevent monopolies from posing a barrier to entry.

"Smart" business people are the ones who maximize profits. That isn't necessarily done by providing a better or less expensive product, or acting in the public good.
January 12, 2026 at 7:23 PM
Ya, I already said you called state schools a handout.
There are other means to demand government supplied services are good.

Failing system? Is every government run school system a failure?

Parents are still customers in Canada. Every tax-payer, and non tax-payer is.
January 12, 2026 at 5:53 PM
That is all magical thinking.
Why would an absence of regulation prevent monopoly? Pretty much guarantees the opposite.
Profit motive does not guarantee economy or efficiency.

So far you've described education as charity and a handout. That only goes for people who can't afford private school of course.
January 12, 2026 at 4:17 PM
Education is a handout now?
January 12, 2026 at 4:16 PM
We already have private schools so there is no monopoly.
January 12, 2026 at 4:04 PM
Private schools won't take poor people, or won't provide the same level of education.
"You Poor's can learn to work in factories. "
January 12, 2026 at 4:03 PM
You don't value sending people's kids to school?
January 12, 2026 at 4:02 PM
So you wouldn't pay to send kids to school? Other than your own I'm guessing.
Yikes.
"Charity". Lolz.
January 12, 2026 at 2:50 PM
If you personally didn't have to pay taxes, would you stop?
January 12, 2026 at 6:54 AM
I voluntarily pay my taxes because I like stuff. Like hospitals and roads and schools and fire fighters.
January 12, 2026 at 6:47 AM
So destroying habitat doesn't matter unless the impact can be measured? How many duck or frog deaths count as harm?

Let me know about CO2.
January 11, 2026 at 8:23 PM
"I've never signed a social contract". That says everything I need to know.
January 11, 2026 at 8:15 PM
So if filling in a wetland doesn't affect my neighbour, it is OK?
January 11, 2026 at 8:09 PM
Paying taxes is part of a social contract, it's not a "shakedown".
