We also highlight the usefulness of mutants with altered leaf architecture to learn about immunity, in this case, using the cue1 mutant.

New low for @deutsche-bahn.bsky.social: Email informs me that planned 9 hour trip from London to Berlin, with 2 transfers, no longer possible. New itinerary suggested by Deutsche Bahn: 24 hour trip with 12 transfers. Really?

Nice title for this mutation accumulation experiment: "Genes shielded, repeats exposed: mutation bias in the midge Chironomus riparius"

Key observation: Exon constitute 23% of callable sites but contain only 10% of observed mutations.

Visited Instituto Hortofruticultura Subtropical y Mediteranea field station La Mayora in Agarrobo and got to see the only place where cocoa trees are being successfully cultivated in Europe!

Game changer for cell-based plant genetics: the labs of Caixia Gao & Jin-Long Qiu have developed very efficient self-replicating vectors and they just published a very nice proof-of-concept paper.

Not mentioned in our 1990 letter (www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...), but I noticed the similarity between Drosophila fkh and rat HNF3A while reading the paper from the Darnell lab in G&D and looking closely at fig. 5! No computer involved…

One of the coolest moments in my scientific career.
