Galanthus 'Three Ships' and Arum italicum 'Tiny'. This combination reminds me of reading Margery Fish's books years ago. Have a look if you haven't.

A lovely purple form of Iris unguicularis from Brian Matthew via the British Iris Society seed exchange. Fairly compact with almost dusky foliage. Hopefully some spare in the spring.

The lush plain green leaves of Arum purpureospathum make a good contrast over winter. Not flowered for a couple of years though....

Orders placed after today will be sent from the 12th January onwards.

Thank you to everyone who has bought so far this year!

Pennisetum 'Fairy Tails' has dried out after all the wet and windy weather. It's amazing how well some of these grasses bounce back all winter.

Taking cuttings of Hedera colchica 'Dentata' and taken by the first winter colour on the leaves. If it gets colder most leaves will do this, only a few so far.

Advantages of polytunnels - the flowers on Hesperantha coccinea 'Mollie Gould' aren't damaged by the frosts and rain. Though they do fare pretty well outside to be honest.

Bulking up for the future...

Our perimeter hedge and shelter belt looking good at this time of year. Over a thousand shrubs and trees planted since 2010, nearly all native but some ornamentals like this Malus hupehensis added for interest and to feed the birds!

Deschampsia cespitosa 'Schottland' is one of the taller and stronger stemmed forms. The skeletons of the seedheads should stand most of the winter unless the weather gets really bad.

Begonia grandis seedpods look interesting in the low sun. Never had viable seed from them before but maybe this year...

Good colour on Themeda triandra ssp japonica again this year. It might be a bit green in the summer but the autumn and early winter colour makes up for it in my mind.

Quite pleased with the leaf and flower combination on this Cyclamen confusum seedling. Only sown two years ago, they do well if you keep them moving.

There are probably more flowers on Bidens aurea now than there have been all year! Paler too, almost white in the late afternoon sun yesterday.

Geranium nodosum 'Hexham Whitethroat' has decided to have a late flush of flower. The colour is a bit off but the flowers are big!

This amazing aster has been in flower for months (started in June or July this year) and will be the last in flower by some margin. It makes a billowing cloud of flowers up to 1m tall, similar width.

Proving easy to grow but temperamental to propagate!

Symphyotrichum sp.KM.C.28.02

A good bit of autumn colour from this Geranium sanguineum seedling in the sales area path. As a friend said to me years ago: "you never find anything interesting on a tidy nursery"! Maybe we take it too far?!

Tropaeolum smithii is back after we lost it a couple of years ago. This year's seedlings flowering in the seed frame since it got too hot and dry to prick them out in the summer...

I admit to always being somewhat underwhelmed by this Malus transitoria with its small yellow fruit that go brown so fast but it is doing well this year.

My first Cyclamen cyprium grown from seed to flower. It might not look much but it's the first time I've had any luck with this species. It's super sweetly scented too!

First daffodil of the season! Narcissus 'Cedric Morris' is meant to flower this side of Christmas but I think it's early even for this variety this year.

Sorry none to spare this year.

Some other plants from my trip at the start of the week:

Morina longifolia - I don't think this likes East Anglian hot summers.

Xanthoriza simplicissima - amazing autumn colour, must try this again.

Heuchera villosa 'Autumn Bride' giving a good contrast with the hedge in low sun.

A few days away to give a talk and the chance to see other gardens and nurseries. More photos to come but to start, Parottia persica looking fiery at Belsay Hall.

Although we sold out ages ago Bidens aurea is still flowering its heart out and will continue until we get an actual frost. Will try and pot more next year!

So many customers have commented on (and asked for) this Molinia seedling that we'll be starting to trial and propagate it in the spring.
