Started in 2014 and now with around 25 plots, it is a neighborhood-run space built for people who want to grow food and feel more connected while doing it as they learn names, share tips, and celebrate the first big harvests together.

Homegrown is part of the City of Minneapolis Health Department, and their north star is pretty simple: expand our community’s capacity to grow and share food.

Minneapolis had 16 farmers markets in 2024, and Homegrown helped keep that local food ecosystem strong.

They also put $315,800 into 16 community-led projects, supported five community food distributions that served 46,953 people, and helped rescue over 1 million pounds of food across Minneapolis.

In 2024, they helped lease 57 vacant City-owned lots to community and market gardens and delivered 348 cubic yards of compost to 45 community gardens. That is a lot of raised beds getting a boost.
