We met several of these spotted salamanders today. It's an optimal location for them, a cold, damp ravine with a stream. They walk slowly, but even so, I only managed a fleeting photo.

Pictured is a salamander, an amphibian, typically lizard shaped. It's photographed coming up the slope from below. Around it is a tangle of dry leaves, twigs, green leaves and a rock. It has black, moist skin with distinctive yellow patches of asymmetrical elongated rounded shapes that are oriented in the direction of the body. The short legs and tail are visible, also with yellow spots without symmetry.
