It is not illegal for businesses operating in the EU and UK like Musk's to follow the same rules as every other business that operates there. Musk is whining not because they are doing anything oppressive, but because he's not getting special treatment like he did in the US.

As someone from the US, I can say that the breakup has been happening for a long time. Elon is just that creepy 'friend' who says incendiary BS to everyone to speed it up so he can date your ex.
