sleep sched so wonky, vw rambles from the other week, not set in stone just having fun rotating different angles
ive been thinking about the shy thrill that comes with lexicon expansion w a beloved, specifically in what one calls+refers to the other, and how this plays out for vashwood as their relationship grows in intimacy. it's such a funny awkward lovely transition time esp since theyve known each other as just one set of names for so long and now here they are with more ways to call each other that reflect the increase/inclusion of more/different dynamics. and i think they would both really feel it and be so aware and like "😩 this is weird but i like it 😩." ie the first time vash calls wolfwood a petname they both freeze and stare at each other and vash goes bright red and his expression is determined (hes stubborn! and he meant it! its just! new! hes not used to newness!) and also shocked at himself bc hes generally very intentional and aware with his words and doesnt let things just slip out. wolfwood points and laughs at him but in a sweet startled way and is like "oh my god you LIKE-like me" and vash is like "stoopp i know!!!" (have been together for months). idk i just think that transition space is really cute and precious bc it is both comfortable and safe bc theyre together already and also beautifully activating/thrilling/alarming bc theyre not used to it yet so every thing that highlights the expansion/depth of their feelings is in neon lights. and it is just so endearing and funny to me to go from "this guy" to "my guy" language for them bc they retain both. first kiss like "cant believe im kissing this guy who owes me $$20 and leaves his socks in the middle of the floor [affectionate, in love, overwhelmed, in awe]" in some ways i think its harder for wolfwood bc he started w a nickname right off the bat so "tongari" encompasses a lot of shift in their relationship already over the course of the story. i think hes more self conscious too. but hes also kind of a motormouth and his threshhold for getting riled up by vash is lower (they have the same intensity just metered out differently) so i think he has a lot of intrusive thoughts about wifenaming vash that spill over at various times and instances and activities. and they both Go Through It when considering their position in the other's life, ie the difference btwn vash calling him 'dear' and ww internalizing 'I Am The Dear'. see: pharmacy 'i am spouse' wolfwood and 'we are like bogo pretzels' tummyache feelings vash

i grow a lot of sprouts in the winter when the garden is hibernating, and its hard to capture but the sprout roots are so shiny, like silk, and it enchants me every time

i read a lot of really good books last year and i did some doodles for a few of my favorites. if i really love a book i often re-read parts of it for a few weeks at least; this was so fun to do while i was having lingering Feelings. the thief, the haunting of hill house, and picnic at hanging rock

WOLFWOOD WOLFWOOD WOLFWOOD!!! WITH HIS LITTLE PEEK OF SWEET TONGUE, HIS HINT OF BLUSH ON HIS CHEEKS AND PRECIOUS BRIDGE OF HIS NOSE!!! his head tipped back into vash's palm, eyes tucked away For Vash Only behind his bangs!!! every single thing about this whole piece is my favorite, and one of my favorite favorite things is wolfwood holding onto the strap of vash's coat. grounding himself, keeping vash close, and theres something really endearingly vulnerable about it that makes me crazy. it is fifty million chefs kisses and flaming chili peppers. im also enchanted by the (so pinchable) tip of his chin nearly brushing vash's coat, circling back to really feeling the weight+presence of vash over him. and i lovelovelove the bright spots of his collar, his cuff, and the chair, and how all of those circle together to lead me to the bright spot of the spit and the SPIT! IS! BEAUTIFUL! welled up on vash's plump cute mlem, a fragile strand between them that drops gorgeously and delicately and undeniably into wolfwoods waiting mouth. the light on it is heavenly! and your colors in general are always so so good. AAUGH! I LOVE EVERYTHING!!! i love it, thank you for making this and sharing it, i am cherishing it deeply 😭😭🙏❤️‍🔥💘💗💞

i dont have a better method for sharing these wall-of-text musings, sorry, also i am in migraine recovery, but here's the wolfwood wednesday director's cut if anyone is interested 🥹
Something I love so much about this scene (wolfwood after seeing the communications array) is how the visual pov shifts from a general 3rd person pov to being with a specific character, and then how it shifts again between wolfwood and vash while the narrative pov stays with wolfwood. We go from a general 3rd pov being with wolfwood viewing the array to, suddenly, vash’s close pov of wolfwood while the narrative voice remains with wolfwood. It’s vash who is walking up to the girls and seeing them up close, it’s vash who is looking back and seeing wolfwood further away. We get a quick switch back to wolfwood pov seeing vash and the girls and then the camera stays with vash, watching wolfwood approach head-on as wolfwood thinks about what all of this means. It’s vash seeing wolfwood in profile, implying wolfwood is now with the group, standing next to vash, vash listening to wolfwood say “grant us hope to reach tomorrow”—all while the narrative voice is wolfwood’s. I really love how the camera moves, the way it passes between them, while the narrative voice stays tied to wolfwood. it’s a pivotal moment for wolfwood’s character and I like how rather than creating a division, the effect is a subtle, gentle meshing of wolfwood further into camaraderie and companionship with vash—and notably not through a fight (though I love when that happens) but through wolfwood wanting to hope for a tomorrow, in his civilian clothes, well-fed, healed up, on the deck of vash’s Home. I’m also always struck by the tender privacy vash’s visual pov often affords wolfwood. wolfwood is really going through it right now and vash is probably the only person to really understand the impact of this on him. the cut-off profile of wolfwood praying OUT LOUD for hope to reach tomorrow feels both very intimate and like vash is sheltering him from the viewer. Which, of course, only makes it feel more intimate to me. This moment for me is the spark that leads to off-screen conversations about “wanting to spend tomorrows together” which, also of course, is terribly, lovingly bound to the grief-stricken tender privacy vash affords wolfwood from the viewer when burying him. This ended on a sad note, apologies, so overall I’ll actually end on that I love the way vash and wolfwood toss the camera between them, I love seeing them from each other’s pov and what they get to witness for the other, and I love the sponginess of the visual+narrative pov that lets me wiggle my way in. VASH IS MENACING HIM SO BAD, AS HE SHOULD. oh god this is so delightful, so lovely and fun, i love your pacing and paneling SO MUCH. i love vash giving wolfwood a chance to seduce him, wolfwood nervous sweating and fumbling, and vash swooping in and plowing forward like no we WILL breathe into each others mouths tonight 😤😤😤 i also love "thats not supposed to happen" AND WW *BELIEVING* THAT ITS VASH'S FIRST TIME SMOKING. i felt stupid for implying that i approach things un-contextually willynilly, and i felt like you deserved a better response than 'surface level associative yaoi'. i also wrote a micro essay on this poem's use in one of my fics and how it was almost a title but that seemed sideways and Too Much lol
vash kissing with eyes open--agree agree agree of course that its intensely consumingly blaringly bc of who wolfwood is and what wolfwood means to him BECAUSE of knowing him, leading to this bloom of desire for him on every level of companionship (vashwood demi kings ♥️)--he's hungry for wolfwood Specifically, rather than "craving the dream of" someone generally. (and tho i agree the poem is centered on idea/fantasy, to me i find it to be more from self as conduit rather than disconnected desire.) the way the poem begins with conversations being whats loved, slides into a desperate intense physicality, then spins into an aching (fuzzier, vaguer, harder to grasp than the explicit specifics of sweat and come and moans) romantic domestic future by the end verses has phrasings and movement around longing that i love to play with for vw across the board. when i think about vash kissing with his eyes open i think about it as a bottomless hunger hellbent on grasping those fuzzier longings that are still tethered to physical intimacy--he wants to behold wolfwood moment to moment to moment ("hour and hour in my life") and i like when this spawns a feedback loop: beholding ww makes him want him, wanting him makes him desire beholding him. his day-long gaze and barriers down voluntarily (if sneakily haha) in the name of taking wolfwood in, his eyes-open kissing is covetous while simultaneously in the midst of having (a dichotomy that to me mirrors the aforementioned structure of the fantasy in the poem). so i guess thats why i thought of it for eyes open kissing 😂

"vash!" wolfwood calls as he picks his way through the collapsed building. vash turns to look at him with big, scared eyes. "What's wrong?" wolfwood asks, dusting off the shoulders of vash's coat. Most of the time he knows the difference between vash's real-scared and play-scared and if he had to bet on it, he'd say this was real. vash's brow furrows and he wraps an arm across his chest, gripping his shoulder like it hurts. "you get hit or something?" wolfwood frowns, mirroring vash's expression. He licks his thumb to scrub hard at the dirt on vash's cheek. no scrape but it might bruise. vash lets him, dazed, which starts to make wolfwood feel a little panicky. "hey, let me—" wolfwood tries to tug vash's arm away to check but vash shakes his head, arm clamped tighter, eyes darting frantically between wolfwood's face and hand, off to the side, back to wolfwood. "I—I—" Vash stutters, and wolfwood can't tell if he's pushing something down or trying to drag it up.

final shishito harvest, and maybe final mini bell pepps? theres still green ones on the plant, we'll see, idk their cold tolerance, im going to leave them on a little longer but if they start to look cold damaged i'll harvest. and then the final (small and chilly) cukes (!) and eggplants 💜

it is actually finally too cold for melon plant so i harvested from her withered vines. 2 out of the 8 were wrinkled & softened by the cold nights so i left those to deal w later when i more formally tidy up and put the trough to bed for the winter. im still giving away tomatoes like crazy tho lol
