rally car update:

- car is up on alignment stands
- fuckin' hell all the links are all torqued, finally
- muffler is back on
- finally getting to the bit that started this whole adventure into recursive repairsA

rally car update:
- rear driver's side links removed with far less drama
- drama reduction provided by a brand new toy: an induction heater
- had to remove parts of the exhaust to make room for my hands
- next up is installing bits and finally aligning the rear wheels T_T

It's a checklist of next steps on the car's rear suspension rebuild the rear driver's side of a subaru impreza's suspension. All control links are missing. All that can be seen are a strut, various tools on the ground, and a portable light

rally car update:
- all the stuck bolts and nuts
- decided to replace all the fuckin' links in the rear suspension (lateral control arms, trailing arm) with adjustable ones
- replacing all the hardware
- passenger side is done
- acquired more tools, broke the handle of a breaker bar

Rally car update: this fucking thing

Two (2) bent rearward lateral links which explain the fucked up toe and thrust angle on the car. The bolts are rusted to hell and back, and I want to set things on fire.

Someday I'll get to race this thing

i've now learned how to de-pin and re-pin wire harnesses. that's definitely a plus.

the fix was relatively easy, and now she will happily rev to redline and limiter with zero desyncs.

I. AM. SO. STOKED.

eventually i come across a post talking about a similar issue caused by...the + and - sides of the VR sensor being wired backwards. which would throw off the readings from the crank angle. turns out the original builder missed that bit of the manual (it's easy to miss)
except from a page of the microsquirt manual showing the shape of the VR sensor signal as well as a simplified wiring diagram that shows + to - and - to + wiring from the sensor to the ECU

this is the point of the story where i learn about stub axles
. the good news is that i had a spare axle in the pile of parts that came with the car i got with the car. so in it went and it was finally drivable. but there was one more thing left to do

but something went wrong. my friend and i got in the car for a test drive and then we heard a noise and suddenly no movement. i learned two things at that moment: the current incarnation of the car is "oops all open diffs," and also that there was something very wrong with one of the axles

i picked up new suspension for the car, coz the old one wasn't in the best shape. primitive racing had a set that came well recommended, so those went in. That was pretty smooth all things told

rally car update: so this was a bit of an adventure, but first the quick version

- new suspension in and she's on rally tyres
- new axle in (old one exploded)
- fixed the problem with the VR sensor wiring that was causing desyncs at higher rpms
