Added only to explain the Christmas decorations visible in some of the exteriors shot on location.

Remember, one of his UPenn professors was quoted as repeatedly saying that Trump was "was the dumbest g**d*** student I ever had."

Their prices have gotten insane.

Not *just* them, to be clear.

His Detroit Industry Murals are the most beloved and iconic works of art at our Detroit Institute of Arts. (Rivera himself considered this his most successful work.) Photos don't do these massive frescoes on the walls of an interior courtyard justice.

Great movie. I love it so much that I've simply refused to see the Coen Brothers remake (wisely, it seems, because it's generally considered to be one of their weaker efforts).

One of my favorite musicals, BTW.

Written by Comden and Green, with music by Leonard Bernstein ... what's not to like?

The first musical feature film to be (partially) shot on location, which proved challenging. In NYC, the actors hid in a taxicab and jumped out to try and quickly get needed shots before passersby recognized them.

That started a few years ago.

Costco's house brand has kept making the traditional width, FWIW.

Not exactly:

“Although Paramount raised its offer to $30 per share on Thursday for the entire company, for an equity value of $78 billion, according to sources familiar with the deal, the Warner Bros board had concerns about the financing, other sources said.”

And the irony of Kael claiming that Welles wanting all the glory, while she didn’t credit the guy whose research she relied on. 🤨

I’ve never read her stuff, but she strikes me as tremendously overrated.

Lol if you know the story, or can just read between the lines. 🤣

It’s one of the great controversies in Hollywood animation, and there’s never been a definitive explanation of how that happened, AFAIK.

He should have won a fifth Oscar — the one MGM won for the Tom and Jerry cartoon where Tom is a classical pianist and Jerry is hiding in a grand piano. It’s almost a carbon copy of a WB cartoon with Bugs Bunny and an unnamed mouse that went into production first.

I’ve wanted to see this movie for that very reason … even though I don’t consider Kael to be a trustworthy source on the subject of Citizen Kane.

Add the US auto market to the long, long, long list of things that Trump doesn’t understand.

Honestly, ODC is the funniest book I have ever read.

States can’t set fuel economy standards.

They can opt to adopt California emissions standards over Federal ones. Obviously there’s some correlation (reducing fuel consumption reduces emissions), but that’s not the same thing.

PBS aired a documentary about him (part of the American Masters series, I think) a few years ago that was fascinating. Highly recommended. They rerun it occasionally, and I presume it’s available from their streaming site as well (and maybe Amazon).

The first of Nixon’s two Supreme Court nominees to be rejected by the Senate. That hadn’t happened since Grover Cleveland, about 75 years earlier.

The third try finally succeeded when Harry Blackmun was unanimously approved.
