Coming around to the idea that people writ large are incapable of happiness and the more we improve material conditions, the more they'll get hysterical about Weird Bullshit.

I get spun out about awkward apartment stairway greetings because I have zero problems in the 1850 sense

Despite everything, still can't believe a sitting American president cut low-budget ads for $200 cologne/perfume with his face on the bottle

Lost a ton of weight, healthier than I've been since...I don't even know, work going better, looking less like a hobo and the Hodor-enthusiast women are hovering again, mostly got the slice out of my golf swing (biggest accomplishment).

Tiniest thing goes wrong, my trash brain:

Just overheard on speaker a zoomer employee arguing at length (like 3 minutes!) with my mom about a basic 5th-grade arithmetic they screwed up and even more concerned for the future.

Always been people bad at reading/math (some are delightful!), but only recently did they gain weird confidence

Just read a study showing that holding in weedsmoke as long as you can doesn't actually get you higher than holding for two seconds. That's days of my life I've wasted

Bought the 4XL bucket hat online from the big and tall store and it's not big enough

Don't know if this will be more encouraging or depressing, but the federal-lands-selloff proposal is the first Trump policy I'm hearing backlash about from his voters and enablers (and vaguely-aware nonvoters) in rural-PNW circles. And a couple adamant that Trump would never allow 'good places' sold

Accepting that I will never be able to sing or dance well

Same thing I've been thinking, put better
What's truly amazing is that this person doesn't understand the massive flaw in the original premise: that they know what information they need.

It's the kind of arrogance that only ignorance can generate, the font of the Dunning-Kruger effect, corroding the foundation of Socratic wisdom.

Tried explaining very patiently to an anti-anti-Trump (occasionally condemns but voted for him three times) family-member why this is bad and it was like playing tennis against a wall. Half the country thinks US Senators should behave like their braindead conspiracy uncle

Apparently the future of armed conflict propaganda is posting anecdotal videos of civilians of either side celebrating and dancing as missiles fly, until the infosphere is 99% frothing rage because of a dozen shitheads out of millions.

Seen this with videos of Israeli, Iranian, Lebanese civilians

Sending voluntary advisories on viral misinformation to social media companies is the worst fascism imaginable and the president deploying the military to places he doesn't like on bare pretext is freedom

Not sure how we expect people to spot AI-generated fake news when three-quarters of the country can't tell the difference between reporting and an op-ed

This is maybe too pessimistic, but I don't see a path out of our political trends. The MAGAs are getting worse. I thought they were living an alternate reality in Trump's first term, but now...?

That collapse in info systems and civics will long outlive Trump. It's not manageable.

As part of losing a ton of weight, getting into more outdoor/athletic hobbies and it's going surprisingly well (natural athlete, obviously) except for morning yoga.

Great for my flexibility but still like a newborn giraffe having a seizure. May have to go with snowboarding in 'not for Hodors' list

I don't like when you have a variety pack of a snack/drink and one of the varieties is significantly worse than the others. Don't want to be left with only the inferior option so you have to start with all-bad or keep up a rotation.

Now there's snack chores. Awful

I think it's most noticeable how bad Twitter is now (and America in general) when there's breaking news and most of the replies are deranged nonsense.

Not just normal nonsense, the kind that requires years of deranged beliefs as foundation

Let's give this a try again! Twitter's too full of awful people

Just saw a particularly noxious replies section on Twitter, recommitting to being on here more

Those stressful comedic situations in movies where there's an unlikely misunderstanding and no one believes the protagonist? I am 99.9% certain I could talk my way out of those. My distraught sincerity is always very believable
