It's possible they did cap it and this is just a result of them dicking about with the rules; I had just assumed it was a consequence of interest rates going way up.

Saw a graph of how much interest got added in the last few years and it's crazy that the government didn't temporarily change the interest rules

In cases like this editors are almost always reflecting the preferences of the readers. Perhaps it is the BBC's responsibility to say "no read this, it is more important", but they are incentivised not to.

Maybe the correct interpretation is "the government is slowly learning" and "the legacy media is still struggling to". Even though the online ban is financially relevant to them and the watershed is not?

Aren't they also banning it entirety online? The article suggests so and they've just gone with TV for the headline

It's possible that he is doing it for the oil, but he is just dumb and ignorant of how little strategic sense it makes.

Having shelled out for this privately for my two kids (1 and 4), I am both pleased and tempted to demand reimbursement because it is ridiculous that this wasn't done sooner

I think the market-yimby view would be that as the housing crisis has worsened, market power of leaseholders has gone up, so they can get away with worse behaviour. What are the lessees going to do, leave?

That said, Amodei has also been in the AI world for ages. Ancient people believed their religions, and long-standing AI people really do believe it's going to be transformational

I do not believe this is true tbh. I'm pretty sure VCs are not in general making decisions on a simple annualised revenue figure. Yes stuff gets leaked but a smallish fraction of what is available internally.

Why would they bother doing that though? They don't care what you or I think - they're raising plenty of money already

Maybe. There's a certain amount of fudging that can be done in the accounting, but their annualised revenue is pretty high and the increase in compute costs per generation is so high that it's not implausible
