I thought the phrase was “bowl in a China shop/cabinet” until I was in my late teens or early twenties. I always thought it made zero sense as an expression because bowls being in a China cabinet seems very expected.

Very fair, thanks for the distinction. I thought the original comment was trying to make the point that it’s not a chronic issue compared to the other things listed.

Tooth decay and gum disease is for real, though, and has an epigenetic component. I have good hygiene and go to the dentist four times a year and still have issues with cavities once a year and struggle with periodontal disease. They are starting to connect gum disease with auto-immune disorders.

I come from a family of crafty women and I like to think I carry on the legacy, even if my grandma was primarily a quilter. The reminders are certainly bittersweet.

I promise you, if investing wasn’t the only teeny-tiny, barely there glimmer of hope that I will ever have of retiring, I would have nothing to do with the stock market at all. Alas, here I am lighting money on fire by contributing to my 403(b).
