#BirdReturns is a partnership led by #PointBlue, #TheNatureConservancyCA, and #AudubonCA that incentivizes farmers and wetland managers in California's Central Valley to flood their fields during specific times to create temporary wetland habitat for #migratorybirds.🦉🌎💧🧪🌐
pointblue.bsky.social
Why does this sampling work matter? Because #shorebirds rely on food sources like #invertebrates to fuel their long migrations. Food is a key part of the habitat puzzle & measuring invertebrate abundance helps us gauge how well the habitat created through #BirdReturns is meeting the needs of birds.
pointblue.bsky.social
🌎🧪In our BirdReturns work, we're digging into the biggest slice of the animal kingdom pie—insects! 🐛 Why? Because they’re #bird food! Peep the photos to see how biologists are sampling BirdReturns sites to assess their #invertebrate stocks! Learn more at birdreturns.org
