Pork loin chops I cut off a larger roast made a few weeks ago & threw in the freezer in a zip top. I thought to pop a head of garlic in when I roasted baby yams earlier today. Still have cabbage from that sale. Cake is good for coffee cake & considering I was doing so many things. Dinner, better.

A few years old, taken in the Detroit area. The poor little object of my affection & often, ire. 🥰

Friday's soup. Beef Lentil.

(& you know I brought some to the neighbor lady, along with a couple cheddar thyme muffins.)

The Kitchn basic buttermilk quick bread one is what I used & that conversion for breads to muffins.

Just pulled them out.

A tsp of fresh thyme I have been nursing along in the fridge & some shredded extra sharp cheddar stirred in.

Will post the lentil soup recipe once it is worked up.

Met up with a friend. After running errands, stopped by a nearby coffee shop for a cup of very good coffee. I wish I had also been hungry. Tamales on the menu. I know where to go next time.

Was talking about 70s hand-painted ceramics the other day in another's thread. The snowman, mine. Am pretty sure my older sister did at least one of the two angels, & my stepmom & my dad did the Mr & Mrs Claus. Gave them to a "neighbor" before we left the Carolinas.

This is what the inside of the cookbook I passed to my eldest niece looked like. There were recipes on the back covers, too. My mom had 2 cookbooks. This one & a red/white Betty Crocker, but I only ever saw her use this one for baking. Then there was the card file of recipes she saved from the AF

The carrot pie. Will talk taste tomorrow.

Yes, I reused an aluminum tin.

Recipe next post.

I hate the way those crack, though the tins are great for reusing, like this ...

Remembered the neighbor also gave me a bag of apples, & put this together while the carrots were cooking, after my pumpkin bread went in the oven, since I would have an extra crust.

Because I expected all kinds of bad things from him, coming into office, I stocked these into my pantry before January, as well as some canned fruit fillings, knowing he was going to target ag workers & we all need something sweet in our lives, at times to break up the bad.

It also requires a blender.

I loved the taste & texture of it, though, even beyond a "traditional" carrot cake with cream cheese frosting & didn't have to grate all those damn carrots.

These three were like mischievous kids. Chunky, on the left, once jumped on the kitchen counter & looked up under the electric can opener. I figured it was to see where the tuna came from. It had been days since we opened any. Jessica liked to follow husband to the bathroom in the morning...

Green beans & zucchini look familiar? Yeah. Had 1/2 of each, raw, leftover from cooking yesterday, so tossed them with 1/2 an onion, a block of extra-firm tofu, & black bean chili sauce.

There were probably sesame seeds somewhere around, but too lazy to garnish tonight.

Caturday pic of my tortie's (Duchess) paws from memories.

We adored her impossibly long toe hair.

You shouldn't want to kiss toes that have been in a litter box, but the urge was always there.

How it started/how it ended up, pre-addition of the pasta shells, which I put in the bowls to keep from them getting soggy.

I texted the first pic to the neighbor lady to see if she wanted some & also to let her see my stove is clean. You know.

She enjoyed getting some.

Couldn't wait for him to wake. Wrapped it in a wet paper towel & microwaved for 2 minutes. Perfect. Hit it with some chili oil before I ate it. It was made with care. All the contents centered & evenly cooked. I broke it open so you could see the inside. The flavor from the leaves!

My friend & I run errands together when we see each other or grab a cup of coffee. It depends on what needs to happen.

My soul needed to stop by Honey Bakery & get sticky rice, which I will break into for breakfast tomorrow. He also talked me into some dumplings bc he just finished making them

Not a poem. Much longer than I intended. Not first person, the way I usually write, which means I was still putting space between me & it, but I could see the boxy microwave clearly. The metal handle. The faux-wood grain wrap.

I'm not as practiced, talented, nor fast as his mom, but I try to keep a can of these in the pantry, as well as one of "mountain vegetables, & hondashi. "Sushi" is often just inari. She made this great rice mix with the veg, though, & hondashi, as a side, for other things. 🇯🇵

I have a thing for shower curtains & linens. When we lived in OKC about 20 years ago, we had a dinky bathroom with lovely vintage turquoise tile. As luck would have it, I had brown towels from one of the two bathrooms in our previous apt, & I found this curtain, which I adored.

When someone makes you hungry way too late & you pull that last black bean ramen out of the pantry, the pork loin slices from the freezer...

Yes. Got out of bed for this.

When I couldn't find mint anywhere in town or I needed sweet rice flour. When I saw this jar of yellow pepper paste & thought, "Well, I'll take it home & see what happens."

The kind of business that gives out calendars to customers at the end of the year. All my chemo appts were written on it.

One house we lived in about 10 years ago had these on a doorway & I could not paint over them, even. Really. If those children came back at some point & said, "We used to live here, can we look around? We had great memories." I wanted them to be able to see them, still there.

Downloaded this from internet. Shows original mural. I'm not at all sure who the original artist was.

Rolled past Ryan's Saloon a few minutes ago. This was a much larger pic, but I cropped out the people who were actually painting over the large mural on the side of the building.

I'm not sure how long it had been there. It has recently been sold & will be undergoing changes. Still the history. 😢
