Political, economic and policy stuff. An unrepentant guitar gear hoarder. You know who I am. A social democrat on the beats - a libertarian between the human, civil and political rights sheets. The stupidity in this country is exhausting. Moreton Bay

A jaw-dropping 11,787 drones lit up the night sky, setting a new Guinness World Record in China

Look at the sheer scale of this 😲

"It was not until Othniel Antwi had finished his masters and was looking for work that he realised his degree was not accredited."
This is horrendous from public unis - *I sold you this great car for your commute, but oopsie you can't drive it on a public road, sorry.* www.abc.net.au/news/2025-10...
Careers in limbo after graduates discover university courses were never accredited
Students have been left with HECS debts and careers that are "non-existent" after completing degrees that were not accredited. Class actions have been launched against two Australian universities.

As they say mate, a problem shared is a problem doubled! 🤣

I appreciate all that. The Ireland program was essentially just an industry support program.

No one will have a UBI unless you tax wealth, as most of the available untaxed dollars are capital gains using debt instruments to create income, through double tax write-off sandwiches. It won't happen.

I need to apologise to all of the members of Midnight Oil. Whenever I see some interaction that is just so ridiculously Bluesky, I start singing to myself "But if I work all day on the Blue Sky Mind"

This whole thread is absolutely peak Bluesky. Dear Americans, not everything is about you.

Announcing this on a board where Americans are in the fight of their lives against a fascist takeover may be a pointer....

I think it's because we were really good at it, and then refused to recognise when the circumstances of the data generation process of the economics around it changed (which normal people refer to as "our lives and lived economic experiences"). Australian power treats change as a personal failing

Nothing wrong with that - chilis without seeds are grown up capsicums!

Australia Brain would do this with vigorous household income means testing seamlessly merging into an income contingent loan, which would allow us all to wax lyrical about its efficiency, whilst reducing net-benefit to human welfare by about 90 cents in the dollar. Oi Oi Oi!

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

The notoriously woke 'hang them from 10 foot poles' radical faction, trying to cause trouble for the 'hang them from 20 foot poles' sensible center faction of the party.

Bathurst 1000 time and since forever I've made a chili for it (nachos for the shootout, party Sat night, wake up just in time for chili & beer breakfast for the start). This year I think I might go kangaroo and beef short ribs for a dark chili (and can smoke and roast the beef bones for the stock).

De Brouwer made the exact same argument two years ago after the Robodebt Royal Commission report was delivered. This is how I treated it in Mean Streak: "Grow up."
Screenshot of the book Mean Streak by Rick Morton. The text reads:

for the past decade and half, when conclusive certificates were
discontinued, is counterproductive to the Parliament’s intent.
‘When it comes to deliberative material, FoI does not ensure
transparency (because advice is not being written) and it
undermines integrity (because advice is not being written).’
So officials don’t put things in writing because they might get
released under Freedom of Information laws, therefore the FoI
laws aren’t working?
Grow up.
De Brouwer is not alone in his views. Former secretaries have
been doing the rounds making exactly these kinds of noises, as if
the outcome of poor professional behaviour is the result of some
law and not … poor professional behaviour.

The old problem - the errors made by humans in the grout holding the boilerplate together that's presented to governments by the big four for vast sums of money.

The new problem - the grout has been replaced by AI.

The real problem - the boilerplate.

Underneath all that prickly fuck off, you're really just a sweetheart 🤣

"Hastie is Presbyterian, not Pentecostal, so not a rapture believer."

That's the point!

It's the LBJ "Make the Sonofabitch deny it" thing on the pig fucking. Any answer he gives splits the christian nationalist bullshit because they're all sectarian fundies - and makes him weird to everyone else
pollytics.bsky.social
If Hastie becomes leader you could have some fun as a journalist.

"Mr Hastie - what's your advice to people with SMSFs regarding The Rapture. Would the policy under a government you lead be focused on enabling short term or long term gains in this regard?"
pollytics.bsky.social
Apparently there's a pig image you can't post on Bluesky Mind or you'll get banned.

But Roger Rogerson seems not to be the pig in question.
