Fae-inflected queer of the Northeastern megalopolis. TTRPGs, linguistics, paganism, and so forth. (they/any)
Another year, another #PAXU haul that was built on roughly equal parts curiosity, determination, and shameless nostalgia. Lovely times with lovely people, and even though I am utterly exhausted now, already looking forward to the next adventure. 🎉

Day threeeeee… getting ready to run Sorcerer’s Crusade and feeling the feels. A sensible way to round out the #PAXU, I dare say. 💜

Also, yesterday’s Expo Hall interview gauntlet went rather well! Herewith some chitchat with several cool creatives; have a listen, check out their booths and/or websites, live your best life. 🌈

Day two of #PAXU. Realized I hadn’t done a lanyard photo; no new pins yet, but we’ll see if there’s an addition or two today. Preparing for a morning of game running with the elixir of the gods… ☕️

*dusts off Bluesky app*

Time for one of my periodic “I’m definitely going to stick with social media THIS time” moments. But anyway, the descent into the expo hall of #PAXU begins… 🖖

The requisite post-con flat lay haul photo. I *might* have a problem. But I’ll also have the ineffable pleasure of swimming through gameworld text for the rest of the month, at least. (In my defense, almost everything here was used and/or free.) Overall, though—a lovely and exhausting experience. 🫀

Pretty amazed that I was able to get it together enough to pull off this diner rally-themed Changeling game and have people actually enjoy it. First (and second, not pictured) ever con game(s) GM achievement unlocked! One more this afternoon before I collapse. 🫠

Ready as I’ll ever be for PAX. Let’s see if I can maintain all my neckbones this year against the weight of the lanyard… 💃

As the exodus is underway, I'm dusting this thing off once again. I've been busy, but not with things that bring joy; anxious, but not about things I can change. So I want to address both of those issues. The best medicine for me, to start, is posting random street art like this Brooklyn mural. 🦋

In culmination of my Sigilcraft thread, herewith seven days of sigils to start off 2024 with grounding intentions. Now to burn and bury and hide and lose and frame them, in some combination… 🔥🙏🎊

Optional embellishments—which I usually reserve for when these are gifts—include bits of ribbon, sealing wax, etc. The latter is my favorite because it gives me an opportunity to stamp things. (Never miss the chance to stamp.)

Anyway, the final one is naturally for completion. 🙏

After basic inking, I sometimes add color and/or metallic accents. At present, I’m fond of pink/teal/blue in the palette, plus silver. The symbolism of each changes and is specific to the sigil; today’s is for questing ever onward. 💃

(must get better lighting for the next photos…)

My favorite inking marker crapped out, so I’ve been using a paint marker. Not ideal, but gets the job done. I’m always anxious with inking: it’s the point of no return, but one can and should incorporate the errors and unexpected twists.

Today’s is for fluidity and adaptation. 🧚

After any drafting, pencil sketch on the final canvas; today was a sticky note day. A light touch and a stalwart eraser are best for any would-be scrawler! But this is where the unexpected starts getting in, so try to trust any deviations from the plan. This one was for confidence.

I generally do my sigils (today’s is for contemplation) with extemporaneous queer abandon 🌈—but no shame in drafts. While the basic materials, techniques, and aesthetics may stay the same, each one often has its own semiotics. Sketching can help uncover that unique visual language.

(Sigilcraft, 2/7)
After choosing materials, one must select the word to be decomposed. I do enjoy going to the trusty stack of dictionaries for possibilities. Accents and whatnot lend themselves to embellishing the visual language of the sigil on the spot.

Today’s is built around persistence. 🙌

It’s late, and I feel like shouting into the void.

(Sigilcraft, 1/7):
With sigils, the materials are… immaterial? Maybe a bit material. Anyway, I favor fancy and/or colorful paper, sometimes cut into ✨shapes!✨. Silver marker is optional; pencil(s) and [fancy] pen(s) are not. Swagger is mandatory.
December 26, 2023 at 2:45 AM
Getting back into my sigilcraft practice over the Yuletide break. Definitely need better pens and less caffeine-vibed hands for the next one…

Might also do a short series of posts over the next week or so about my process, in my ongoing quest to figure out what kind of content to share here. 🤔

It’s taken me two full days to recover from PAX, but overall worth it. 👍 Every iteration brings new lessons to remember for the next one; still a good time overall. Now begins the season of curling up under blankets with new books.

(j/k that’s every season)

PAX dispatches (disPAXtches?) from yesterday, in which I ran around like a fiend, doing on the spot interviews with creators of fae-themed TTRPG content! For the Changeling-adjacent-curious gamer and their ilk. 💃

…and the PAX haul: Day 1. Not too much in the way of TTRPGs at the secondhand booths, but a nice little assortment of other things. 💃

Forgot to do the PAX lanyard pic earlier, but here’s mine for the weekend…

Kodama: the Tree Spirits in its final phase (assuming we played it correctly). A fiver well spent at the used games depot, says I…!
