A little update 💫

We believe if you know us, and if you follow us here, you know where we stand. But to be specific: This past week ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" after direct threats from the FCC to revoke their broadcast license if they did not take action against him. Sinclair and Nexstar, two very conservative companies that own the majority of local broadcast stations nationwide, told ABC that they would not air the show until certain demands are met that would appease the Trump administration, its base, and the FCC. Nexstar is currently currying favor with Trump and the FCC as they seek to buy another broadcast competitor and need the FCC to approve their deal. White text on a purple background that reads: We live in a time where money talks and we cannot trust companies to put "doing the right thing" above their bottom line. Disney and ABC capitulated to unlawful threats from a government agency to censor free speech and two media groups with a vise-grip on local broadcasting, seeking to extort them. We need them to fight back. Of course the FCC, the Trump administration, Nexstar, and Sinclair are in the wrong. We should be using our collective power to challenge them, call government representatives, write letters, contact their broadcast media sponsors, etc. But Disney and ABC are our best bet to stand up to an administration that only listens to money and big corporations. Disney was also in the wrong to fold under the pressure of an administration testing the boundary between democracy and authoritarianism. The Disney we know taught us to use our voice, fight for what's right, and stand up to the bad guy. And it's time for us to remind them. It is also extremely important to us that each of you has the time and space to take in current events and choose your reactions based on your own thoughts and feelings without our influence. We are going to pause Disney content until we hear more about how this all unfolds and can choose the best way forward. In order to put pressure on Disney to fight back against unconstitutional threats from an overreaching FCC and administration that seeks to censor its critics, we have canceled our Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions. We encourage you to do the same for the time being, but ultimately, how you make it through difficult times like these is up to you. Simultaneously, we believe that if you truly love something (whether it be Disney, this country, or both) you must hold it accountable and call out wrongdoing. It can be overwhelming to try to balance all of these things at once, but remember: rebellions are built on hope.
