#Lem (a Common Lisp Editor) people speak with the fresh mindsets of generational change and foreign cultures. Those people used to be #Emacs people, but over the years, many realized we were beholden to a handful of nerds in a tree house, content to sabotage all outside efforts.

Not enough is said about how open source of concepts and ideas makes things go faster. A PR for #Lem, the Common #Lisp editor, just demonstrated how to use Detsys #nix cache for Github CI, something I was really not looking forward to setting up (again).

Not expected to negatively impact the schedule, but there is a mouse that has moved into the living room. The distinguished lead mouser, a tabby with more medals than a North Korean general, is nursing a sore foot and not yet alerted by the tiny footsteps. 🐁🐈

Rediscovered some long lost screenshots of an EGL demo I put together circa 2013(?) This was from early in my switch to #Android #programming when #mobile was still in its upswing. The pattern is created by instanced Conway's Game of Life simulations and feedback rendering. MuTate will be good.

90s techno-optimism was right, but subject to Amara's law. Part of the dividends were accruing in a generation of programmers kept alive by the tech treadmill dole, ZIRP, and other "funny money" as we call it. In the last two months, nearly every garbage thing I've ever worked on has found a role.

Looking forward to some revenge coding. The cold seems to be clearing up. Extremely cheap transformations from audio to latent space fill my dreams 💤🌛🔮

🧑‍🎄🎄Holiday season mostly done. Caught a cold, so not expecting to break any records for the next 2-3 days.

Doing Wayland support for MuTate tomorrow. Might test on Hyperland since my usual XFCE does not run on Wayland yet. While at it, making music-driven window decorations is a possibility. Hyperland has a ton of users. If the drawing integration isn't too steep, could be pure win.

github.com/positron-sol... Fullscreen support (and requisite architecture) done. Scheduled for inclusion in This Week in Rust @thisweekinrust.bsky.social Updates to readme ongoing to prep for collab. Music visualization is the future of open source machine learning ✊

For every Sharknado that barely makes it, thousands of creative visions don't make it to the next stage. Generative tweening and scene extrapolation can only make this and other important messages possible to finally be delivered in their entirety. #AI #Blender

A lot of imagination doesn't automatically scale up to full productions. Growing this kind of independently created stuff is a strong role for demand-size organized crowd-funding. #blender

Internet, our prodigal yet troubled friend... Brigading, sock-puppets, echo chambers, and state-level disinformation tuned by AB testing. Add the decapitating effects of populism to the list. We engineers were blinded to it by the "democratizing" we were doing. #social

Visiting yet more family in the coming week. Will be offline mostly. Might catch up with some old colleagues in the geography.

I've been asked by other engineers why I prefer the Laplace distribution. µTate will answer that question. ChatGPT (and industry by extension) is completely wrong about some important key points I was corroborating 😘😉

It's so difficult to keep quiet about what's brewing. The Fast Fourier Transform appears to me like a star map written in some ancient pharaoh's tomb.

The biggest unintended benefit of doing Vulkan programming and handling atomics is the odd tendency to be so, so much better at lesser problems. FFT programming actually bears a non-trivial similarity to crowd cognition.

Excited about dropping an article describing µTate development. The amount of things that can go right on this path is really adding up. Going to crash and get it out after coffee. It is easy to sleep well when the work is honest.

With µTate out of vaporware, the next move is taking crowd cognition out of vaporware. That is the "make the money smarter" piece. The µTate work can pay dividends toward building a team while crowd cognition is under heavy development.

Spoke with a #blender artist who doesn't want their work to "be associated with AI projects." I look forward to the day that small, local, truly open and consultative AI solutions are thoroughly integrated with Blender as well as the editors we programmers use to develop Blender.

µTate has reached first triangle ▲. This concludes the less sexy side of starting that work. Because programming for gaming and machine learning is converging, the road ahead is what we call "a fertile space for ideas." @vulkan.org @rust-lang.org github.com/positron-sol...

Flight movie review: Matrix Resurrections was great, and the internet is wrong / was dead before AI. I write this at 1am, having woken up with jet lag to write code, drinking bottomless free hotel coffee while a door dasher or another guest ate my food. A little too close to home.
