If Lenin were alive today and had an opinion on what happened, I doubt he would’ve condemned it as in “it should never have happened”. It’s an individualized outburst of the process of class struggle. His concern was with organizations that misrepresented such action as a strategy in and of itself.

His concern was strategy and organization, and he was against individualist terrorism *as an organizational strategy* because in practice it was ineffectual and served to divert attention from efforts to organize and lead the masses.

Some people would rather isolate from anyone who doesn’t share their exact ideology. Rather than examine the frankly astonishing phenomenon that this guy killed a CEO and millions of Americans across the political spectrum resonated with or celebrated it and refused to bow to media scolding

You can tell who’s interested in actual political action vs. who is interested in internet subculture belonging and validation. If we want to change things in this country we’re gonna have to reach and influence millions of people with incoherent and sometimes right-wing views.

A lot of people get into right-wing politics specifically because they know something is deeply wrong with the status quo but the only easily accessible narrative that reflects that back to them is from the right. It’s more a symptom of how marginal the anti-capitalist left is than anything else.

I believe that as long as communists don’t rediscover a fundamental curiosity and compassion for people with weird political ideas cobbled together from propaganda, lived experience and false consciousness we will continue to be irrelevant
