Before the invention of modern fire extinguishers, there was the Harden Hand Grenade Fire Extinguisher! These glass bottles were filled with a chemical fluid and were meant to be thrown at a fire to shatter on impact. These were actually very effective and were produced from 1883 to the early 1900s.

Picked this up today. US Civil War era Patent Whiskey bottle made by W. McCully & Co. in Pittsburgh, PA. I found one of these broken one time at the site of what was once a Union Army occupied site. W. McCully & Co. would go on to create some of the US's first beer bottles starting in 1872.

Here are three incredibly rare "onion style" bottles from a friend's collection. The left and middle Onion bottles in the first pic typically date between 1680 and 1720 and are English/Spanish in origin. The one on the right is known as a Dutch Onion bottle, which typically dates from 1720-1750.

Here is an 1890s beer bottle from a long extinct brewery. The John J. Wolf Brewery ran from 1886 until prohibition in 1920. After prohibition ended in 1934, it reopened but only lasted 4 years before closing again. It's interesting because it's very rare to see an embossed wolf on an old bottle.

Here is one of my favorite bottles from my personal collection. It reads:
"John Ryan
Excelsior
Mineral Water
Savannah GA
1859" On one side, and then:
"This Bottle Never Sold" on the other. This water bottle from 1859 was meant to be returned to the company after it was empty. Some never did.

I'll make my first post dedicated to a friend of mine's "mallet style" liquor bottle. This is a dream bottle of mine and on my bucket list to add to my collection. This was found in Mobile Bay, Alabama. Mallet style bottles typically date sometime between 1720 and 1760.
