This experience showed me first-hand the challenge of communicating about your research in a second language - something that researchers who are not native English speakers deal with every day. All the more inspiration to continue researching this important issue of language barriers in science!

Preparing for this 25-minute presentation took at least 2X longer than it would have for an English one, even with help from my wife and Japanese teacher as well as about 8 years of experience in research to build upon.
