I want people to see the value in understanding people who disagree with them. This requires that you talk, and even argue with them, but in a respectful manner. I will happily and respectfully argue with you, even if you are disrespectful.
I made my first video game! It was for a 2 week game jam. It’s not perfect, but keep in mind it was my first game and made it 14 days.

Special thanks to @northlandremi.bsky.social for making the music, and the pixel artist, theo_artin!

It will never cease to amaze me how people can get so stuck with their own biases, they can read the exact same thing as you and extrapolate a completely different meaning from it.

One important thing to understand about research is that just because someone wrote a paper and made a conclusion, it doesn’t mean that their conclusion is true. The key to research is reproducibility, and unfortunately reproducing results is disincentive in the modern era of novelty.

Education isn’t knowledge isn’t intelligence isn’t critical thinking. All 4 of these things are distinctively different, and you can have any one of them while lacking the others. However, I find if you have one, people assume you have the others, which is dangerous.

People can be genuinely good people, and also have very bad opinions. Judge people based on who they are, not what they think.

Extremely good explanation of why AI is the way it is. How it can be useful and why it isn’t.

Some people say installing solar on your house isn’t worth it, others say it is. Someone had a meeting with me recently to sell me solar panels, and I have the answer to all your questions after some research. The short answer though is if you don’t have to take out a loan, it’s likely worth it.

When I was a kid around 15-17 years ago, me and my cousin made our own board game, it was full of pop culture references. One of the references was “Tronald Dump” owner of Dump towers. Idk how we even knew who Trump was at the time? I never watched his apprentice show. Just saw commercials I guess?

I have made significant progress on prototyping my first game in Godot! I used the time off from christmas and new years to really get some coding groundwork done. There is a long road ahead, but for the first time I feel like I’m actually on a road rather than stumbling aimlessly through the woods.

Just watch this video on predictions about 2025 from 1925. The last one is very funny, as an author talks about how the kids of his generation were criticized by the older generations for being lazier and ignorant. Why is hating the younger generation seemingly an evolutionary inevitability?

Instead of saying “you are wrong” ask an earnest question to clarify what you think is wrong about what they say. You will get an explanation that clarifies, or they will realize they have no answer and maybe change their mind. Telling them they are wrong will certainly not change their mind.

If you’re not even open to the idea of a discussion with another party without anger and animosity, you’re part of the problem. The irony here is that you’re wearing the intolerance shoe of the opposition that you claim is the bigot.

New Year’s resolutions are a farce. If you needed New Year’s as an excuse to make a positive change, you probably aren’t motivated to make that change in the first place. Make the change when you realize you have a problem. There is a reason people joke about giving up on New Year’s resolutions.

I have a potentially controversial opinion, but hear me out (and tell me if I’m wrong).

We should not care about the environmental impact of specific things we use electricity for. For example, data centers for LLMs, crypto, or whatever else have you. (1/5)

So in school, you learn coordinates as ⬆️ being positive Y values, and ➡️ being positive X values. However, in 2D game engines, ⬇️ is positive Y values. This causes me to make a lot of basic math mistakes in my code. Turns out there is an interesting reason that 2D engines use a “Left-handed” system.

I have a bone to pick with the term “common sense.” Very rarely is it used for things that should be common sense. In objective situations, it’s usually just insulting someone who is ignorant about an issue, and in subjective situations, it’s insulting someone for disagreeing with you.

“‽” is an undervalued punctuation, change my mind. How often do you wanna express an intense question? You can ask like “Why???” Or “Why?!?!” And it gets the point across, but “Why‽” is just so much cleaner!

I set up my phone to automatically replace “?!” with “‽” and I have no regrets.

Do you feel bad for
- playing video games all day
- taking a nap
- watching shows/youtube
- “doomscrolling” social media
- other “unproductive” activities

Before you feel bad take a step back. Was there something incredibly important that NEEDED to be done or was this just how you spent free time?

That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.
