We joined fellow members of the Youth Journalism Coalition in asking NYC to add more journalism classes to the schools. YJC lobbied for a new pilot program starting in 30 schools this year. But we need more. A new survey finds only 90 NYC public high schools offered journalism last year.

Studies show students who work at a school news publication score HIGHER on English, math, social studies and science. But student news publications have been declining nationally. Maybe an investment in scholastic journalism could help reverse this trend?
