there's a correct response to the mental equivalent of being grabbed by the scruff of your neck and being put through hypnotic training and brainwashing.

it involves limp, wide-eyed fixation, eyelids that fall and droop a bit, and clear and eager arousal signalling that you're learning.

it's not perfect though. some of the downsides that bite me frequently are 1) what happens when the demoable/cool parts run out and you're left with elbow grease on the boring parts? and 2) does it -really- warrant more than just slice and concept at the end -- leading to dropping things halfway.

i think the advice of quickly rolling out a vertical slice is probably one of the best things in creative work, as far as metering out your own dopamine to keep going. getting a "here's a glimpse of what it'll look like down the road" in your hand to toy with is a great motivator.

hypnosis can be a slow methodical process cloaked in metaphor, carefully weaving a narrative through your mind until threads can be pulled and you're helpless to follow

it can also be me pressing my forehead to yours, locking your gaze, and telling you "SINK" over and over until you do

some of the stuff around using metatables for class constructors versus closures and how imports get resolved felt unintuitive at first and definitely hack-ish but not in a way that has blocked progress

flexible enough that my pace has felt very quick, even if a little thrown together

lua 5.1 not having some of the common operations on strings (e.g. split/trim) was surprising; using the special language patterns as opposed to, e.x. regex or something akin to the format strings in python/rust felt less than fun but i can't complain. left a great impression for quickly making stuff

love2d has been an absolute blast to work in for a variety of reasons (lightweight but has the important stuff covered) but the fact that web targeting via emscripten works feels like a blessing. resizing/window management across targets was a little bit of a snag but works well enough to be happy
