It may already be too late. Nobody is fighting back. A few are passively resisting - a university, a judge, a mayor ... but that is it. Easy to remove. Just like the Germans in the 1930s, the people are letting it happen.

They are there for safety and service the whole time, not just in case of a mechanical defect.

Safety includes helping with luggage and safety belts when needed. If they are unwilling to do so, they are the problem, not the passenger.

If you're disabled, there are times that you need to be selfish or things will go terribly wrong. Also, if you have brain damage, it's hard enough to make clear what you need, and packaging that in polite sentences may be entirely impossible. Flight attendants are trained to handle this correctly.
