Next week is Talk to a Stranger Week! I encourage you all to give this a try. Even just a short connection/hello with a checkout clerk or someone standing in line or riding up the elevator, gives that spark of connection. It is good medicine for our selves, our communities, and our world.

Today as everyone is spinning out - please consider taking a break from all the vitriol and fury of the U.S. elections and go outside for a walk. Maybe smile at strangers or buy someone a cup of tea. People are a hot mess out there and a little kindness goes a very long way.

If you're in the U.S. and can do so - please VOTE today. It's important. Of course it won't fix everything (by a lot) but it matters and I can prove it. If your VOTE did not matter, gerrymandering would not exist and people wouldn't fight about how we get to do it. see? easy!

❤️ VOTE ❤️

Today I took a Continuing Education course on migraines and it really highlighted the benefits of catching migraines early in the prodrome phase. Interoception is what helps you identify the early signs of prodrome so you can use your treatments sooner and minimize the time you spend in pain.

We know that autistic people and those on that spectrum can have difficulty accessing their interoceptive awareness, but it’s important to know that people of *all* brain types can struggle with this. When you’re missing signals from your body, you’re missing opportunities to optimize your health.

“My body hates me when I ___.” We’ve all heard someone say this. For instance, my body hates me when I go cracktastic on sugar. I can always tell I’ve overdone it when my knees hurt going up stairs. Does it mean I never overdo it? Nope! Sometimes it’s worth it. I call it “Informed Consent Eating.”

Interoception is like everything - a spectrum. Too little and your body does not get its needs met for (ideally optimal) function; too much and you hyper-fixate on the body and lose the outside world. The goal is to be somewhere in the juicy bit of the bell curve - comfortably aware and responsive.

There are many reasons your interoceptive awareness can get disrupted, but there are also many ways it can be repaired. Learning to tap into your interoceptive senses gives you the data you need to navigate your health more easily.
