Israel calls us “human animals,” never understanding that our bond with animals is the deepest proof of our humanity, writes Hend Salama Abo Helow in an op-ed. Like all of us Palestinians in Gaza, our animals have been displaced, starved, bombed, & terrorized, yet we refuse to abandon each other.

Chicago fights back against Trump admin’s sweeping violence, @nberlat.bsky.social reports. ICE raids & attacks against protesters have brutalized Chicago-area communities. But local organizers are committed to coming together to protect their neighbors.

“The market that emerges under siege is not a sign of resilience—it is a system of predation born of deliberate policy.”

As Israel’s blockade drives Palestinians into daily negotiations with their dignity, women have become the front-line managers of scarcity, Mariam Mohammed Al-Khateeb writes.
Israel drives Palestinian women into daily negotiations with dignity
Women have become the front-line managers of scarcity. Yet their suffering is often erased by Western policy and humanitarian discourse

I attended this webinar earlier, and wanted to share this infographic if folx need a visual to highlight how Zionism is embedded in how American newsrooms typically operate, for which I am truly grateful for the much-needed work that @prismreports.org does! 🍉 visualizingpalestine.org/visual/edite...

“It is Oct. 7 2025, two years of genocide, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been targeted, traumatized. The genocide must stop."

"Journalism should be conviction. I hear stories of journalists who came to the field who say 'the story of my community has been overshadowed by statements that do not represent the truth.'"

"If you can do journalism yourself, if you have deep pockets & can fund newsrooms, do it! The more storytellers we have, the better information there can be."

In 2024, Gallup released a poll showing Americans' trust in media institutions at a record low 31% & people are turning to alternative media. Why? There was no accountability for media's lies covering Iraq. The only accountability was consumers turning to alt news spaces.

Americans' Trust in Media Remains at Trend Low
Americans' confidence in the media is at its lowest point, as Democrats' confidence is near the record low and Republicans' is almost nonexistent.

"If you want news, you must be involved. Politics will engage with you, whether you like it or not. The way to combat propaganda is not just to point it out, but to empower the journalists on the ground & those holding onto their values so that we delegitimize the profit motive." –Eman Mohammed

What is the way forward for this industry?

"I think it's overdue, people have the tools to be informed. There needs to be a distinction between journalists & for-profit media (mainstream media). They treat their audience as idiots to a point where everyone should be offended." –Eman Mohammed
prismreports.org
"Newsrooms preemptively censor themselves because they *know* they'll get pushback from the audience. There's a tension between what the journalist wants to report on & what their editors are allowing them to report on." –Aline Batarseh

"The more people on the ground witnessing atrocities in real time, the more documentation we have to hold people accountable long term. It is a pressing issue that this so-called 'only democracy in the Middle East' will not allow foreign press in."—@abdallahfayyad.bsky.social on intl journalist bans
prismreports.org
"There are so many Arabs/Muslims who have left journalism; they've said what they can, & now they have had to ask themselves 'Do I stay in an industry that is directly complicit in the extermination of 2.2 million people, or do I get out now to save what I can of my soul?'" @sanasaeed.bsky.social
prismreports.org
"Palestinians are treated as more suspect than those with direct ties to groups committing genocide. Even journalists who aren't Arab/Muslim/etc, if the Middle East was their beat & they wanted to cover starvation before it was popular... they would be taken off the story." @sanasaeed.bsky.social

"The press has voluntarily said 'yes, we will put forward those interests of our government and this other state's government as well.' The appointment of Bari Weiss, the Ellison takeover, are part and parcel of that trajectory as well." — @sanasaeed.bsky.social
prismreports.org
"The greatest tragedy is a press that voluntarily enmeshes itself w/ the interests of the state & the state itself without any coercion. Even with their freedom, they are still willing to do that... I don't think there is a greater example than what American media has done." — @sanasaeed.bsky.social

"You literally have an eyewitness who is also a journalist, who knows everything about how this work is done, and now you are saying they are not credible? Watching our families slaughtered, and then having to prove that they are being slaughtered... it was like being killed twice." — Eman Mohammed

"Every group subjected to injustice knows that American media never sided with the truth until it became convenient and popular." — Eman Mohammed

"We joke that if you cover Syria or the Ukraine, that's a career builder; if you cover Palestine, then that can get you blacklisted." — Eman Mohammed
prismreports.org
"Unless it is absolutely """balanced""" in the sense that if there is a pro-Palestine protest and no pro-Israel protest, then the pro-Palestine protest doesn't get coverage. You are concealing news on the basis that other "news" hasn't happened. It doesn't get more biased than that." —Eman Mohammed
prismreports.org
"Pitching Palestinian stories to American media often felt like pitching UFOs. Like, "Prove it. Verify it. Then let us know why we should care." "Explain to us why they're human like the rest of us." There is no self awareness, all free speech posturing fizzles away." — Eman Mohammed

"We are seeing that public perception change, and alongside that, we are seeing public repression increase." — Aline Batarseh on increasing public skepticism towards dehumanizing language and statistics
prismreports.org
"Palestinian voices are treated as always biased, where westerners & Israelis aren't, as if only westerners can be objective. Major media outlets have been silencing Palestinian voices for decades. It's just amplified today bc the suffering is undeniable." — Aline Batarseh

"We were focused on freedom of expression even before Oct 7 because as recognition of Israel's apartheid was growing worldwide, Israel and its supporters were developing additional tactics to silence dissent and silence critics." — Aline Batarseh visualizingpalestine.org/visual/syste...
