To put it mildly, Robert Jenrick is a complete imbecile who does not know what he is talking about:

Glad to see GBH with intent charged here, rather than causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

It gets worse. The below was in the defence closing speech. So he might have admitted a causing death by driving charge, if he faced one.

Looks like the jury sympathised with the defendant after hearing he'd been punched 4 times by the deceased. He isn't here to face charges for that.
Mr Csoka said: “When someone is stressed they drive worse.

“When someone is distracted they drive worse,

“When someone is in fear they drive worse,

“If they have just been repeatedly punched to the head, they drive worse.

“You are not here to consider driving offences. You are only here in this trial to consider the charges on the indictment.

Causing death by dangerous driving is a lesser included offence on a manslaughter charge. I'm wondering if the prosecution argued for this at all? Exceptional for a case like this to result in complete acquittal.

Two U.S. senators urge safety regulators to launch a formal probe into Tesla’s “Full Self-Driving” software after an NBC News investigation earlier this month reported complaints from Tesla drivers who said the software sometimes fails to detect oncoming trains at railroad crossings.

A Waymo robot drove into deep floodwater in a side road dip where it traverses a swale/drainage between the main road and residences. OP reports rescuers assisted passengers to escape their robot and then to hospital.

Awful that a police officer has been killed in the line of duty.
But if I was a member of PC Najeeb's family, I would feel added distress by the description being that he was "in collision with a VW Polo".
No.
The car (controlled by a driver) collided with him.

Speaking to a barrister friend last night and he was telling me of all sorts of weird charging decisions the CPS have been making in a range of cases he's been working on recently as both prosecution and defence counsel. He agreed that a fractured neck = GBH.

I'm perplexed. The statute says serious harm is the same as GBH. GBH is serious harm (so it's circular). I would think any jury would agree a fractured neck is serious harm. The CPS guidance on ABH vs GBH is here:

Yes; not a regular RTC, going by the conspiracy charges.

I very much enjoyed speaking at this event and meeting all the like-minded academics interested in the use of cars in committing crime (including, but not limited to, road traffic offences). Many thanks to @jpinasanchez.bsky.social for bringing us all together!

🚗 From joyriding in 1980s Ireland to AI-enhanced traffic stops, the #Cars and #Crime Symposium brought together leading thinkers on topics such as #drink-driving, #speeding, and #policing.

Background of cars in a traffic jam. #news flare. Text reads: ‘The Cars and Crime Symposium

and held on the 31 July 2025 in a community café in Ilkley.
As the first of its kind, this symposium brought together leading criminologists, legal scholars, geographers and road safety experts to discuss how vehicles, drivers, and crime intersect in shaping public safety.’

Poor use of wording from West Midlands Police & the BBC here, giving the car full agency.
Ironically I've only been to Wetherby once, two weeks ago, for a brilliant Cars & Crime symposium organised by @jpinasanchez.bsky.social
