I returned to my office today after teaching 2 classes & leading 2 meetings to find this note. I was excited that a student who graduated 6 years ago had dropped by to see me, but was sad to realize that I'd missed her. I happened to see her at an event on campus later in the day. Life is good.

I was reminded that today is World Knot Tying Day. Unfortunately, I was already in my office, and the only thing I found to tie a knot with was an old CAT5e cable, so that's what I used to tie this Ocean Plait Mat. #worldknottyingday

I experienced something today that I don't remember feeling for a decade or so--the slight vibration of chalk being drug across a chalkboard while I used it to write on the chalkboard. Most rooms had them replaced many years. I also need to remember to not wear dark-colored clothing on Mondays!

Another year older, and it's time for another first-day-of-school picture. Here's to the start of year 16 at @ballstate.bsky.social and teaching in the @bsucompsci.bsky.social department. I'm looking forward to a great year, and am (mostly) ready for the learners. I wonder if they're ready for me!

I sorted building blocks tonight to create 6 identical sets. Why would I do such an exciting thing? I'll be using them to introduce computer science concepts to nearly 50 prospective students at the @ballstate.bsky.social Experience BSU 2025 mock class next Friday.

I walked at least 20 minutes EVERY day of 2025. Having done this every day since January 1, 2022, that makes 1,247 consecutive days (3.5 years). I started tracking my miles walked 9.5 years ago, and have accumuated 21,776 miles so far.

It was a bit warm when I came home at lunch today. I decided to get a sock to protect my hand. If you zoom in on the picture, you’ll see that it says 98° F. It had said 100 but dropped before I got the picture taken.

So after spending an hour on the treadmill this morning, I went to my car to get my backpack and discovered something. See that empty pocket? Do you know what that means? It means my tea is still brewing at home after 2 1/2 hours. I wonder if it’s ready yet.
