91 years is a good long run for most but too short for someone like Jane Goodall. Damn.

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

The sociology & criminology dept at gonzaga is hiring! We're searching for somebody with a focus on criminology, law, or social control (broadly conceived).

We're a liberal arts teaching university. Very collegial department. Spread the word to interested folks. I'm happy to answer questions!

I gotta say I find a lot of AI discourse around higher ed very confusing. "if ChatGPT can write your essays is college even worth it?" did people think math teachers were assigning problem sets because *they* couldn't figure out the answers?

I really needed this info. Thank you for sharing!

If you are an academic who wants to write a general interest book, you should be making a habit of reading general interest books *in a field that’s not yours.* I.e., if you’re a historian of the 19th century US, you should be reading about colonizing Mars or cannibalistic bugs, not medieval Europe.
