@grants.bsky.social I found a Kizuki gift card in my wallet yesterday. I need to remember to go there.

@liam imagine telling somebody from long long ago that the key to their home stopped working because the manufacturer went out of business.

“Sorry, babe, Schlage went bankrupt so now we can’t unlock the doors.”

@liam don’t even get me started on “but what happens when MyQ goes out of business in three years.”

The idea that access to my home might be dependent on the success of a two-bit SaaS provider is frightening.

I absolutely know that when I ask “what is the emergency use case?” I will get nothing but the dumbest of looks from the property management people.

Maybe this is just crusty old sailor manifesting…. “What do we do in a casualty situation?”

I realize that I’m exhibiting a fair amount of “grumpy old man” energy, but I sincerely don’t want anything essential to the safety of my home being reliant on the Internet. “Because Amazon had a bad day” isn’t a reason that “I can’t open the door to my apartment building” that I will ever accept.

@grants.bsky.social then I guess you just don’t know me. 😭
