Can't get Deki back soon enough.

No doubt the idea of the phrase as an Americanism has been in the British zeitgeist.
profspur.bsky.social
Fair enough, I'm mainly reacting to what I saw in the Discord and then how it looked on the Reddit posts, which I didn't see at the time.. Some people with a particular axe to grind, it would seem.
profspur.bsky.social
Yeah, see, my theory about this is you're more likely to get malapropisms of all kinds when your exposure is mainly to people on TV than you'd get in the general population, so if TV is your sample then certain malapropisms can seem 'American.'
profspur.bsky.social
Do you talk with Americans regularly?
profspur.bsky.social
Actually now that I think about it I might have to walk back the reality TV comment, with streaming services, Love Island, etc.
profspur.bsky.social
I still have no idea why people think this is an Americanism. I hear it in Britain as much as in the US (though US reality TV full of idiots is probably more televised in Britain than the reverse). Odd thing where Brits can't distinguish between Americanisms and malapropisms.

If you COULD care less you do, in fact, care, I however, COULDN’T care less.

It's once again time to say that as a US American I'm against this. It's not fair to the players, you won't get standard-quality competition, and there are better ways to do outreach to US-based fans. This is just greed, plain and simple.
profspur.bsky.social
I hear that, but depth is all we can do about it.
profspur.bsky.social
Admittedly the idea of bassoon Reddit is funny until itself.

Thanks for responding! I think we agree on a lot of it, especially that the real world demands analysis and rarely throws up the samples we want when we want them, so trying to analyze well & carefully is the best we can do.

Good response from Nathan here. Do check this out (nice that it’s in video form too so you don’t have to read more words about my words):

I mean it’s not overstating, if you’re giving up tap-ins that’s very much part of how you’re defending. And that’s exactly why I’m saying you can’t discount low-xG shots either, bc they can lead to high-xG shots!
profspur.bsky.social
Yeah, dickhead behavior

FWIW, this is exactly the kind of public statement I called for from Levy during the obviously anomalous prior season, and unlike Postecoglou, Amorim has never finished 5th in the Premier League. And if Frank comes under fire at any point this season or next, I'd say the same.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pledged to give Ruben Amorim three years to prove himself as a “great coach” at Manchester United.

Do you agree with the decision?

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say.

It's not the attack that concerns me at this stage.

I think this is pretty uncharitable. I’m very happy for our fans to be happy about things and I’m pretty happy about our results myself. But I’m not in the business of commenting on or judging people’s happiness; I’m interested in what I think pundits are missing, same as with Ange, anyone.

Like I really admired the fact that when he made his first team debut he immediately tried to take on 1-3 players at a time but maybe he needs to learn another set of instincts, lol.

It's to the point now (I felt similarly about Mikey Moore) where he's doing so much stuff individually because he can't be stopped at this level and he needs to play regularly at another level soon and get more integrative / associative football experience on a regular basis.

Both of Luca Williams-Barnett's goals vs Newcastle u21 on Sunday

I mean it's nothing for me personally as I love watching football of all types, but I do think our scorelines and results are at odds with what it's like to watch us at the moment. We create very little from open play, make a lot of recovery runs, cede lots of possession, and are formulaic in attack
