Norman Lear’s "All in the Family" debuted on CBS in 1971 and went on to spawn five spin-offs: "Maude," "The Jeffersons," "Archie Bunker's Place," "Gloria" and "704 Hauswer." Two of those series generated spin-offs of their own - "Maude" ("Good Times" and "The Jeffersons" ("Checking In").

CBS drama "Daktari," filmed on location in Africa, debuted in 1966 and ran for four seasons. In the show's final season, 8-year-old Erin Moran — prior to "Happy Days" — appeared as Jenny, a young orphan who joins the Tracy household.

Here is an obscure series entry...“Gunsmoke” spinoff, “Dirty Sally”, starring Jeanette Nolan, opened on CBS in 1974. It was described as a comical half-hour western and ran for 14 episodes.

"The Night Stalker" starring Darren McGavin was first televised on ABC as a TV movie in 1972. It led to the weekly series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" in 1974, but that only ran for one season. Yet, it remains a cult favorite and it provided the inspiration for "The X-Files" on Fox.

The “Mickey Mouse” & “Silly Symphony” comics syndicated strip debuted in 1932. The strip featured adaptations of Walt Disney’s popular short film series, “Silly Symphony”, which released 75 cartoons from 1929 to 1939, as well as other cartoons and animated films.

Jim Henson‘s “Fraggle Rock” debuted in the U.S. on HBO in 1983. The children’s musical fantasy comedy series was a joint international production, involving companies from the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. It ran for five seasons.

Mob drama “The Sopranos”, which was the first regularly scheduled series on cable to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, debuted in 1999. It ran for six seasons (in an eight year span), producing 86 episodes in total.

Fox sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” opened its seven-season run in 2000. Linwood Boomer (Adam from “Little House on the Prairie”) was the creator. The upcoming four-episode reboot, "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair," drops on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on April 10.
