Wondering how the government shutdown will impact federal food and nutrition programs for people in MA?

There’s no immediate change to SNAP, WIC, free school meals, or MassHealth. All remain available for now. October SNAP benefits will not be affected.

MA's extending its SNAP-Ed nutrition education program for another year as federal funding runs out! With 2+ million people participating in SNAP-Ed in the last decade, people benefitted from learning how to buy, cook & store healthy food & to maintain community gardens. www.wbur.org/news/2025/09...
Mass. extends nutrition education program another year as federal funding runs out
Massachusetts officials said they still have about $6 million in existing funding, and will stretch those dollars to continue the program into next summer.

Without that accountability, more families will go hungry in silence.

Ask your members of Congress to urge the USDA to reinstate the Household Food Security Survey and Report. Take action at projectbread.org/actioncenter

Now, as the largest cuts to SNAP in U.S. history take effect, the federal government is choosing to ignore this critical data. Cancelling the report means there will be no way to measure how these cuts are impacting families, and no means to hold decision-makers accountable.

We are outraged the USDA has just canceled the Household Food Security Survey and Report, the only tool we have to measure how many families in America can afford to eat. For over 30 years, this report has been the standard for assessing how many families struggle to put food on the table.

Step by step, the Trump Administration is quietly dismantling national data collection on poverty and food insecurity.

We see the harm, and we’re not backing down.

Fresh off slashing SNAP and Medicaid, this isn't just neglect. It's a deliberate choice to hide the harm caused by their policies. Without data, there’s no accountability.

🚨 The Trump Administration doesn't care if you can feed yourself or your family. In yet another act of cruelty, they are cutting key data on hunger, canceling the USDA’s annual food security report, and silencing other poverty metrics. #cancelhungernotdata

📢 Urge Congress to co-sponsor the Restoring Food Security Act! Over 1 million MA residents rely on SNAP, and cuts would be devastating, pushing families out of the program and harming our local economy. SNAP is vital for reducing hunger and improving health. It is a lifeline.
