I saw a lot more, but my phone was dying so I’ll need to put my annual pass to good use and go again. Some really great stuff in the Pacita Abad special execution, a lot more from the indigenous art section, and more. Thanks if you scrolled down this far. Go see the AGO with your eyeballs if you can

2 of my fave Group of Sevens.

J.E.H MacDonald - Lake O’Hara (1930)

One of my favourite pieces of Toronto art. Cool seeing what that view was like in 1972, without a lot of Toronto’s current tallness. And a viaduct without the Veil.

William Kurelek - Don Valley on a Grey Day (1972)

According to the plaque, this artist “finds low-resolution images on the internet and prints them at a large scale.” love it.

The centre of this space- Light Years: The Paul Lind Gift. Go see it when you go. Lots of weird, untraditional Canadiana kinda stuff.

This one is so good I couldn’t focus on making the photo straight.

This painting blew my mind. Thought it was a photo. Just incredibly detailed. The clothing, the buildings, the ships. Just go to the AGO and see it with your eyeballs.

Canaletto - The Bacino di San Marco, from the Piazzetta (c. 1735)

Side note from googling around about Florence Carlyle - she was (probably) hella gay.

I was amazed at how many paintings of paintings there were. Love an artist flexing like that. Carlyle put one of her paintings (the last one I posted, The Tiff) in this one. Badass.

This painter is from Galt - a town I’d never been to until I got a job there a year ago. Now I’m there twice a week. I could feel the awkwardness between the two of them here, 121 years later.

A girl walked by while I was looking at this one and said “is that Chappell Roan?!”
