I know this is the game, and I know these questions should be asked, but Christ it gets on my nerves.

And also, there are schools far worse off than ours. We have some capacity, some have none whatsoever and these Heads are on their knees. So I’m not moaning, it just annoys me.

…Then in a few months Ofsted will walk in and say ‘We don’t want to hear about that’, and you won’t want to tell them, because all they’ll say is ‘so what are you doing about it’ and you will create the dynamic where you are moaning, or making excuses…

I spend most of my time chasing missing children (we have 3 going through the CME process), attending strategy meetings for abused or vulnerable children, parents, helping manage children in crisis. How we ever get anything strategic done is a miracle…

…We have staff bereavement, 2 staff on jury duty, 2 long term sick, 6 kids turned upon September with complex behaviour and learning needs that we had no information on, an asylum seeker with no paperwork to start…

The other staff will need to be with him all day..
Whilst this is extreme, it is not unusual and we have these occurrences daily. The impact is that 2 phonics groups had to be merged, some interventions won’t take place, some monitoring won’t take place..

This morning a 7 yr old child had a meltdown and started to bash his head against the wall, shouting that he wanted to die. It took 2 staff to stop him, and 2 of SLT were called to deal with it. I am now contacting social care, nurses, recording it all etc…

One of the things that most gets on my nerves about Ofsted is that when they turn up, they don’t take the day to day reality of many schools into account. There is a feeling that ‘all schools have these issues’ or ‘well, that’s school life’. Let me explain with an example…
