Just finishing my coffee and reading this beautiful @janezwart.bsky.social poem that got nominated for Best of the Net. Love that it's "about" our commonplace phrases, but these neat lil' jigsawing stanzas cover a deep emotional core. So good!

First 1.5 stanzas of Jane Zwart's poem "i apologize for the inconvenience" in Psaltery & Lyre

and miss begging to be pardoned;
the poetry in it fit what I meant, I
wanted someone to grant me the
indulgence of being, of needing
favors and water, I wanted someone
to intuit that I spoke
with cupped hands.

                                   The thing is
people would prefer you excuse

Just in case tomorrow really is the day the other shoe finally drops, here is one of my Rapture-trauma poems. "Angel Triptych" appeared in @psalteryandlyre.bsky.social almost exactly two years ago.

Goodness, I just read this poem and it gutted, no flowered me.

"Like us, thin-skinned and tender, they are
quick to bruise, quick to droop and fail. My dad,

my dad is failing quickly, drooping, bruised."

A mini masterclass in line breaks and repetition!

It's profoundly saddening to read that AP will no longer be assigning or running book reviews because readers don't engage with them enough and they take too much effort to plan and assign. People complain about critics as gatekeepers; wait until all that's left is marketing.
